Anyone have experience with buy back

I got a letter today from the dealer I bought my T4R from. Basically, the letter states that they want to buy back my vehicle from me in exchange for a new 06 or 07 Toyota vehicle. The reason for this (according to the letter), was that they wanted to increase their used-car inventory with later model Toyotas. Apprently my T4R was chosen for this. Only a selected few are chosen for this program (supposedly) and it is a private sale.

Has anyone on this board ever hear of something like this?

Of course towards the end of the letter, it states that they will inspect the car to determine its value. My car is brand new since I just bought my car about a month ago.

Obviously it would be stupid for them to give me a brand new car in an even exchange for my car. Just wondering if anyone on the board has done this or know anyone that has done something similar to this.

I used to work for a Direct Mail company that produce these "buy back" letters for local dealerships. Its basically trying to get you out of your used car into a more expensive new car, thus increasing your payments/debt.

It's not exclusive as it seems. We mail out hundreds of thousands letters per day.

I got bombarded with these letters last month. I happened to trade into the 4Runner last month, but it had nothing to do with the letters. (The plan was in motion before I got any letters.)
The part about wanting your current car for their inventory is pretty much BS. They just want you to come and buy a new car. The letter is supposed to make you more optimistic about what they'll offer for your trade-in. If you think the dealer wants or needs your car, then certainly they'll pay you more for it! (Ha!)

Hmmm... seems a bit odd for them to ask for a car that's only a month old. My dad's gotten a bunch of letters like those for his Chevy Astro, since it's discontinued and they're the last cargo minivans.

I received a letter like that a few months back. I never looked into it and just tossed it.

i get those letters all the time, i even get them from car dealerships that i never brought a car from like ford i hate those letters junkmail

Basically, by having your car traded in they will have a vehicle that they will be able to make a lot more moey on. Used cars net the dealership tons more cash over new. That means they will be making money off of you 3 times; 1)When you purchased your current vehicle, 2) The money they will make off your current vehicle when they re-sell it, and 3) The new vehicle you would drive away in.

seems like a cheap trick to get you into a more expensive vehicle. although... if there where better upgrades in the '07 and the payments weren't too much more...*slap across the face*...man, i'm a sucker for a new car.

Wow.......I am speechless. We used to send those letters out when I sold cars in college, but I thought everyone knew how it was just advertising in order to get a customer in the door. Apparently not. Let me put it to you this way.....if you get a letter or a notice from your dealership you can bet it's not worth your time to read it.

I've never seen this kind of letter before, which is why I was asking around for its validity. Regardless, the dealer is in another state over 300 miles from where I live anyway, plus I consider my car brand new still. I'd hate to go through the process I went through to register my car in a different state I bought my car in again.

I still get those letters from the dealer saying they don't have enough "1995 Toyots 4x4 Trucks" in their inventory and they need to buy some of them back...

And I get about 1 a month for our new truck.

Never hurts to ask though. ;):

....SCAM! We got this kind of letters every year, and multiple times during the year. Somehow the dealer (Courtesy Toyota) manages to keep track our purchase records in the pass 10 years, even back then it was owned by different company (Jimmy Bryan). It sounds so stupid when they stated in the letter that my 2000 4Runner LTD was so high in demands in early 2004......to the point that the dealer willing to buy it back higher.......up to three grands of the vehicle's value*. (*) means you need a Microscope to read the Fineprint.
