Anyone have this: Volant Air Intake (for V8 4Runner engines)??

yes, i bought it afterward because of the trouble i had. (i believe they didnt make it at the time) of course im not saying everyone developes problems, it just happened to me on 2 different vec.s that were 12 years apart. anybody who calls may get a different answer about the dry filter, im just saying what i was told by whoever about 3 years ago. ( will work fine with BORLA catbac) heck, he may just of wanted a sale or just being honest, who knows, the powercore dry filter looks like it should be on a pickup & kinda fills the box, again, not pushing it, but i can atest to the fact that it fits & works fine with my BORLA catbac, for me anyway. just in case anyone is interested the powercore # is 61510, size 3.5 x 7 x 6 . of course theres absolutely nothing wrong with the stock oem unit, which is already a CAI, & also works very well, so its up to the person whether they mind spending $ on something they may not need. at any rate , left alone or modded, overall ,imo, the volant looks cool, gives u slightly better throttle response, & is a way of personalizing ur 4r.

It seems you could get either filter. On Volant's website under the features of the 18747, it lists both styles of filter. So that is odd??

So I got my Volant this weekend, it came with the oiled filter. So I called Volant to see if I could swap the oiled one out for the dry filter.

He said if you have the v8, the only filter they want you to use is the oiled Volant Pro 5 Filter.

The dry filter offered by them, the PowerCore® Filter is not large enough for the V8. He told me that the surface area of the current PowerCore® Filter is too small for the V8 so it will restrict it more than the Pro 5 (Oiled Filter) but they are working on a dry filter replacement for it.

Hey Yeah the intake is pretty good huh??? Well i have had mine since like 2007 and its awesome i swapped it out the filter with an k&n and its great..mines a v6 though so i was able to get hooked up with it from them there cool people and i actually got lucky and became good friends with them...since mine is a v6 we had to piece it together. i bellieve my box is off a tundra n the tube is a taco.. and what i did to the front hole since it is for a ram air scoop they made for the tacos is a put a duct on it so it can be my ram air since the duct volant has doesnt fit on the t4r's...but either way to each there own.. i was gonna put some pics but i cant find them ..but yeah it sounds great too..especially with the full exhaust i have. its awesome!!!

I am just as confused. I want one and have been going back and forth since I got 4Runner a month ago. Cant make my mind up.

I've had a Volant for about 3 years. First I thought it was saving me some additional gas mileage. After countless times calculating my mileage at the pump, I don't think so now.

I do think it give better performance when you need to jump on it though. I have a CAT back exhaust as well.

Probably do just as good with a K&N filter replacement in the stock box.

I've had my Volant CAI for about six months now. I agree that there is virtually no difference in mpg. The power is definitely there though and the sound is awesome. I was flipping engine codes on the highway, but hopefully that is now worked out. I do recommend it.

I really like this idea but I'm wondering if this setup would cause you problems when it's raining or if you're off-road in a dusty environment. :ybrick:

Does anyone have experience with either scenario and what did it do to your CAI setup?

Were did the block off cap get bought any links to were I can get 1 for my 2007 Toyota 4runner sr5 Sport edition 4.7l v8 I have the volant Cai intake also wanting to block that ram air port to bad volant don't make a attachment for the oem hood scoop

So you didn't buy it with the dry filter, you bought that after correct?

I was thinking...I wonder if the Volant oil is thinner or less tacky vs the K&N so maybe that is why the Volant was giving you trouble? Maybe it was sucking more of it through vs it staying on the filter??

I never had an issue with the K&N so we will see.

I actually use the K&N spray oil on my volant filters it's easier to cover the filter and haven't had any issue since with the maf the volant oil is very thin no issues using the k&n oil on volant filters at all so I just buy the k&n I also have k&n filters same size I use in the volant when the volant filter is dirty and just swap between 8 filters o have but I also have a volant intake in 5 different 3rd gens and my 07 sport 4th gen as well

IMO, no. 'Yota engineers had a basic CAI design on the V8's stock. The hydrocarbon filter in the upper lid of the air box restricts it, however.

That activated charcoal has long since stopped doing what it was supposed to do. Get a utility knife, cut the filter out of the frame, drop a K&N in there, and save yourself a few hundred bucks.
