I noticed my car was missing on Saturday and it was found in a construction site a few miles away.

If you only had liability, then you are SOL.

Your only chance of having it replaced is if they can find the person responsible and make them pay.

I think even with liability you will be covered with theft. Things like theft, if it can be proven, and acts of god, are covered with liability. Was it stolen from your house/apt? If you have renters or homeowners insurance that will cover it as well. Call your agent. Do you have any paperwork from the cops? was anything taken before they pushed it down that hill?
That said, its not a fast process. Luckily they found your truck, otherwise you would have had to wait 30 days to see if its found before they start payouts.

People are pricks. That sucks.

My experience is different than Miller's - I had a truck stolen with only liability on it, and the insurance company wouldn't pay a dime. Check with your agent, but in this case with you only having liability and the truck being recovered, even if it is totalled, be prepared to hear that you get nothing. Then if they decide it is covered, you can be pleasantly surprised. But I wouldn't hold your breath...

That sucks.
Were they able to get past the immobilizer or were the keys in it?
As for insurance, I think you are SOL. That truck is yours the way it sits. I don't even think they will cover the recovery/towing. Hope I'm wrong...

Looks like some heavy duty off roading! Sorry about your truck, that's a horrible thing. I want to know how it got stolen. They had keys, hotwired?

Admit you went off roading and screwed up! Kidding. Sorry to hear tho. Liability only means you have trouble.

I had a 240sx stolen when i still lived back in Houston. It was found in Laredo, Texas full of Taco wrappers like you get from the Taco Trucks and beer cans. They obviously had a good time cause they blew the motor. I too had liability only, all expenses came out of pocket.

Hope you manage a miracle and get different results.

I have liability but also have theft coverage? It looks like they just stuck a screw driver in the ignition.. is that possible? We just recovered it off sight and the ceiling/headliner was soaked in oil:juggle: :deadhorse:

so pretty much its toast?

I had an 88 Chevy extended cab 2500 2wd stolen twice! First time it was recovered with the seats missing. Insurance gave us $500, we got new seats and drove it for 4 more years until it was stolen again! It went to Mexico this time! Insurance paid us $1500 for the loss. That was 10 years ago now! It took 2 months to get paid the second time.

Did you call your agent? Look through your declarations page you received when you first got the insurance. It should list everything you are covered for.

There's a difference between totalled and toast. You might get lucky, but depending on how hard it landed the body is probably tweaked beyond recovery and would take WAY more effort than it's worth to replace/repair the damaged panels and get everything lined up again. Unless you're very tolerant of squeaks and rattles and drafts and doors that don't close, that pretty much removes its utility as a daily driver. That doesn't mean it's worthless though! Once you've got it back in your driveway, check and top off all your fluids. The engine oil you'll want to drain and fill, what's left of it anyway. Pull all the sparkplugs and let the motor crank over for several seconds to blow any oil or coolant out of the cylinders. Then put it all back together and see if it starts. It'll run rough at first, but I've got $10 that says that truck is still drivable.

You could part it out for several thousand, or you might even find somebody interesting in hacking the roof off and making a crawler out of it. Or you could get yourself another 3rd gen and hang on to your old one for parts. It isn't worthless at all.

This was in San Marcos. After the deductible , Ill be getting $4850. Is that reasonable?

Not only do you loose your 4runner, you getting screwed by insurance company

going by your screen name, you have a 08?

08 2wd v6 sr5 wth 180k just sold at dealer auction for $12,200. thats wholesale. retail will be 20-30% more than that. i'd put it at the $15k mark

Our family '86 Toyota van was stolen several times in front of our house in SoCal. It was recovered every time, left abandoned in an alley. 5-O explained it was probably part of an initiation into a gang. Sorry your rig ended up like that.

Theft usually falls under comprehensive coverage, which generally speaking covers "most things not covered by your other coverages". Vandalism, theft, collision with animals, floods, etc usually fall under this category.

I'm really sorry to hear about your truck; I'm really glad to hear you weren't out if luck on the insurance.

a lot of vague details in regards to the insurance coverage. In general theft would normally fall under Comprehensive as mentioned previously. If you do have insurance coverage for the loss, then insurance company is going to pay whichever is cost effective between either repairing the vehicle, or totaling the truck. Being a complete rollover and the severity of body damage, in this case it's going to be a total loss and insurance should pay for the actual cash value of the truck. This is not retail but rather what your truck is worth. If you run an average nada quote that should get you in the ball park of where insurance should be for a baseline, then +/- based on condition, mileage, accessories, etc. Any reputable insurance company should be paying a reasonable amount for your truck. They aren't out to give you a profit on the vehicle, but they should fairly compensate you. Make sure they provide a written breakdown of how they arrived at their figures. This is your insurance company, you pay them money to insure your belongings so they should walk you through the process.
