Anyone install a Midland MXT275 in a 5th gen?

i have a 2012 TE and didnt know that was in there hahaha. i think i may copy this...where is the unit mounted? what antenna setup did you go with? the 275 comes bundled with a mag mount which i think i will use for now, but would like to go with the ghost antenna at some point. gotta figure out what mount will fit the TE roof rack though.

Hi mine is mounted up under and above and behind the knee airbag to part of the steering column support. The antenna is the stock provided, I ran it along the the bottom door trim tunnel over the drivers wheel well, out through the driver rear turn signal, up along the hatch trim, on on to the roof near the roof rack channel. I made a mount from a yakima rack clamp (I had a leftover one of these MightyMount 34H Set of 4
– Yakima) and a small rectangle (1"x1.75") of 18 gauge steel.

Well, I finally finished my install. I used the void in the center console, as described by Wanderlost Overland, but I changed the mounting points for the connectors to a different location. I went with the low cubby in front of the shift lever. The 3 foot cable lengths that they had spec'ed in their YouTube posting were long enough to reach.

Other changes I made - I vampire-tapped the auxiliary power socket that runs to the center console. Adding a power distribution system is on my list of things to do real soon now...

Part of the decision on the connector location was driven by thoughts on where the Mic Cord would have the least conflicts with coffee cups. And since I'm also considering that cubby for a set of rocker switches, the connector could easily be moved forward at that time. But all also admit that since cutting these holes will be the first non-reversible mod, I wanted to go for an unobtrusive spot...

I'm not sure how or what I was measuring when I thought that this would work (as shown in the first picture). If anybody else tries this, do not place them as shown there!! The air duct behind that piece was much wider, and closer than I realized.

I wound up moving the RJ-45 plug to the far left, and even then had to apply significant Dremel-tool and X-acto knife surgery to the plug. I moved the USB power port to the far right, and turned it sideways to ensure no conflict.

All of this required a healthy application of epoxy to hold the RJ45 in the new position, since I'd carved away extra plastic, and black duct tape to cover up the empty space. Images of the results of that carnage are further down.

I'm happy with the end result. And, happily, the evidence of this experiment is hidden away where it can't be seen.

I was thinking something similar to this except putting the plugs in the smaller hub above that (since I keep my sunglasses in the bigger one, lol).

I mounted my Midland MXT275 in the glove box like shown on their website. I ran the power wire to my sPOD in the engine bay and run it via my sPOD. I bought a antenna off of Amazon that mounts on my Prinsu roof rack and can be folded down between the cross bars of the roof rack when not needed. I routed the antenna wire through the passenger side firewall and up the A-pillar.

have you had any issues with heat dissipation with the head unit in the glove box? i think i want to go this route, but thats really my only potential drawback.

These will mount up under the dash... away from your knees. No heat problem.
No having it across the rig.
Mount it under the dash then get a plug for the mic that goes in a switch blank (shown in this thread earlier).
Now you haven't wasted any storage space and the install is hidden.
My 2cents.

No heat issues with the head unit mounted in the glove box. It is exposed to the interior climate of the cabin. It definitely beats my CB radio. Hope this helps.

loosely installed mine this past weekend. zip tied the bracket to the victory center console molle panel for now so i could use it. gonna do the glove box install when i have some time and swap out the stock antenna for the 3db ghost antenna. radio works great! i like it a lot.
