Anyone install Maestro RR in aftermarket head unit?

Reset the head unit? As in hold the power button down and power up again? From looking at the install instructions on the Maestro, its pretty much a plug and play unit? There are no wires to cut into for the unit to get the vehicle info? Is there a OBDII connector that connects to the OBDII connector of my vehicle? I'll have to take a look and hope I don't unplug anything in there

A few months late but the 2005 was the transition year from ISO to CAN on the ODB2 interface. Not everything was made available with the CAN protocol yet, which is the protocol the Maestro uses to grab its data. TPMS was one of those things not yet migrated. 2006 and up had the full data available over the CAN protocol.

Its probably wired correctly, just your computer doesn't present that information in a protocol the Maestro understands.

Successful install with Pioneer unit

I have a 2008 SR5 and I just got done installing the Maestro RR with a Pioneer 2440NEX stereo unit. I have TPMS showing up. I installed the OEM bluetooth steering wheel button and it works with the Maestro RR.

The radio's wiring harness doesn't have a pink VSS (speed) wire. Is this used?

Also my bypass switch colors are different. Black green and purple. How would this be wired?

The speaker wires on the TOY-1 harness doesn't appear to need connecting with the head unit, correct?

No VSS wire. Wired mine without it and haven’t had any issues.

What dash kit did you use? I have a Metra and Scosche and neither fit correctly.

which trim level 4runner you have? did it came with standard radio or the jbl radio? metra came out with a newer version of the double din kit for the jbl. also try bestkits

I’m planning on getting the Pioneer AVH-1440 NEX sometime this winter. The Maestro RR sounds like a no brainer. I know it’ll connect the steering wheel controls, and I keep reading reviews saying it makes “everything” work as it should.
My question is, by installing Maestro, does it incorporate all 10 speakers in the JBL system? I know it’s compatible with the JBL system, but I haven’t been able to find what exactly that means. Just that it works in general? Or that it incorporates the full 10 speaker system like the stock HU does.

Just installed a new head unit in my 2006 Limited w/ factory JBL Synthesis (non-Nav) system. Installed a Pioneer AVH-2550NEX, Maestro Rr module, T01 vehicle-specific harness, and Metra 8210. The Crutchfield "ready-harness" has to be the best $25 anyone can spend on audio equipment... beautifully and seamlessy integrated the 3 harnesses into a single harness.

The Maestro displays TPMS and all the other info posted so far in this thread, calls are crystal clear, the JBL factory speakers sound GREAT... I don't see any need to install aftermarket speakers/amp at this point. Bass is almost too much for me at this point. If anything I'll throw just a shallow-mount aftermarket sub in the factory location.

I have one issue though after install - the radio is not detecting the parking brake is engaged... so it'll play DVD audio, but not display the video. Will the easiest solution just be to go ahead and install a parking brake microswith bypass? If anyone has some advice, it'd be appreciated!

UPDATE on my parking brake issue... according to Crutchfield tech support, there were some early '05-'06 models that did not communicated the Parking Brake status over the CAN data system, so Maestro cannot detect that info to send to the radio.

Just like the TPMS not showing up for a few folks using Maestro because the early vehicles just didn't provide the information, the parking brake status is also sometimes not provided by the over the vehicle's CAN data system. Must just have been a shortfall of Toyota when making the switch to the CAN protocol. Whatever the case, the simple solution is to just wire the parking brake (light green wire) direct, as would be done in any typical stereo install. The awesome thing about Maestro is it normally gets all this info from the car through the module wiring, but there's a few cases where the data isn't there, so old-school hard wiring is required.

Being that I'll have to connect the parking brake wire direct, figure I'll just install a bypass while I'm at it.

Before I go hacking together a custom wire, I wanted to see if anyone here had one lying around that they'd be willing to sell.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. I'm probably going to get an ODB II splitter either way. I'd still like to get my hands on the cable if you have one lying around. Thanks!

Any interest in creating a HOWTO for hard-wiring the RR to get ODB info without needing the ODB-II connector? I presumes this involves splicing into each wire of the ODB-II plug under the steering wheel?

Also, I was running into an issue with the antenna amp maintaining a parasitic draw on the battery after the truck was turned off. I did some troubleshooting with the iDataLink people, and the fix for this was -

1. Connect the blue power antenna wire from the head unit to the blue-white wire on the TO1 harness.
2. Cut the two blue wires (wires 1 and 5 I think?) on the green plug going into the Maestro RR.

Doing this appears to power the antenna amp through the head unit while bypassing the Maestro RR.

I would only do this if you are experiencing excessive parasitic draw after wiring everything in. My truck seems to draw about 45mA normally. With the antenna amp receiving power while the truck was off the battery had a parasitic draw of 170mA. If the truck were a daily driver I would have likely never noticed, but since it tends to sit idle for five and six days at a time, I was noticing in the colder months that the battery was too weak to crank after sitting for four or five days.

I appreciate your post concerning this issue. I just recently installed a pioneer avh-4200nex along with maestro. Thanks to you posting your issue, I was fully aware and prepared to deal with the same thing. I did end up having the same issue as you and found a solution. I never cut any wires on any of the harnesses but rather I switched the solid blue wire with the blue wire with the white strip on the harness that plugs into the factory harness. These two wires are pins G and H on the factory radio harness. Once you switch these two pins the blue wire will now go to a dead termal and the blue with the white strip now power the power antenna amp as it should. This eliminates that parasitic draw. I hope that this helps someone as much as this great forum has helped me over the years. If you have any questions let me know. Thanks
