Maybe just me, but I would never put an amp in a confined space like that with a heat vent shooting right at it.

remove said vent and seal off. problem solded

Where would you put it then?

under the seat or in the right rear panel where the OEM amp is

or onto the back of the rear seat

LOL, that is unacceptable in my 4Runner. I very often fold my seats, carry bikes, sod, fertilizers, trees, lumber, 4x8 plywood and drywall and I also sleep with my family at the back on long trips. All that stereo equipment has no place at the back. You got no room there for a couple grocery bags. My install is 100% stealth and is in factory locations. I didn't lost a cubic inch of usable space anywhere on my truck with stereo install. 2/3 of 4Runner owners install their amps under the seats. Under driver seat I taped HVAC duct shut but under passenger seat I left it open and my amplifier just warm to the touch during coldest winter months. You over-thinking this

Amps on boxes is a NO NO.

Do a nice 5 channel, from JL or Kenwood xd1000/5 comes to mind.

Doing a Audi Q7 with focal kr2 front and rear, with audison bit one, and xd1000/5 and 2 10w3 subs. along with headrests, laser jammers and radar. this is just a thursday at work LOL

both amp will fit fine, one under each seat. just mount it length wise like the way truck is facing, that how i did it, also still able to readjust some things later on.

only issue i can think of under driver seat is if powered it can sit too low and hit the top of the amp. i have a kenwood xr700.5 under my passenger seat with the air duct sealed off for a few years now. im sure i pictures somewhere on t4r.org

I just have 2 2x2 3/4 thick as stand off on the back side. Raises the amp enough to clear the vent never had a problem. Warm air to amp will give u warmer sound lol. Jk. How's the new compustar? I'm thinking about that tough one. My remote is starting to give me no response back, but still functions.

I'm currently in the same dilemma. I purchased a 2008 4Runner with the JBL Synthesis system but am replacing everything. Installing a new Kenwood H/U, a component set in the front doors. I had planned on 6.5 Alpine type-R components but my local Best Buy only had Type-E and Type-S and they didn't sound as good as some JBL GX600C 6.75 components they did have, so I bought the JBL set. I know JBL's aren't regarded that well but I wanted to buy everything all at once and the Alpine tweeters sounded especially harsh. Considering returning them and trying some Focals but using a 4 channel Kenwood amp (240w/ 4 x 60w rms) I already have for the time being to power all of the door speakers, so not sure its worth spending an extra $100+ per set with that limit amount of amp power. Also replacing the rear door 6.5's. Bought a set of JBL coaxials for those to match the fronts since I'm a bit OCD, lol.

I decided to go with 6.75 (or 6.5) for the fronts instead of 6x9's like the factory set because I'll also be adding a 2 x 12 box (Kicker Comps) with a Kicker 12CX300.1 (300w rms) amp, so will only be using the door speakers for mid-high frequencies and all the low frequencies going to the subs. Again, I know there are much better brands out there but I'm a college student that doesn't work for the time being. Okay, so, I'm hoping the Kicker amp for the sub box will fit where the factory JBL amp is currently. Not sure if it will but even if it does, still have my 4 channel Kenwood to put...somewhere. Its not a very big amp but I have power seats, so not sure if it will fit under them.

Like some of the others who pasted, I'd like to keep everything hidden and out of the way as much as possible. I'll be replacing the 2x12 box with some better 10's as soon as I can afford some custom fiberglass enclosures that fit over the wheel wells in the rear cargo area but I'd rather have the box in the mean time than no subs.

If anyone has any ideas for amp placement other than under the front seats or mounted to the back of the rear seat, I would greatly appreciate it.

OCD on a budget?

Here's what I do.

Focal PS 165 Flax 3 way mid range speaker with machined aluminum Allen head bolts mounted to custom speaker plate for a audi q7. This is stuff you don't ever see.



That's how we do it. We don't do amps on a JL 12w7 high output box. We sell Italian stuff but the French stuff just sounds so much nicer

Yeah, I'm like officially diagnosed with O.C.D. for real but that doesn't mean I don't recognize my limits, like my budget for example. It does make not having things exactly how I'd like them very hard sometimes but in a case like this it's more about having an issue with mixing brands. Like, since I chose the JBL components for the front doors, I wouldn't put Focals or any other brand in the rear doors. Since I bought a Kenwood H/U, I would've bought all Kenwood speakers if the store I went to had any that I thought would be decent. In my previous vehicl, I had all Kenwood. H/U, door speakers and subs. Only reason I ended up with the Kicker subs is because my 120 lb Great Pyrenees put one of her big ol' paws through one of the Kenwood 12's and literally that day, the Kickers were all I could afford and HAD to replace both as immediately. Yes, its a compulsion issue but compulsive or not, I can only spend what I have. I learned years ago, I have to operate on a cash only basis or I do get EXACTLY what I want when I want it and end up going overboard.
