Anyone make an all Aluminum Radiator

I just got my Shrockworks bumper on and I want to build a skid for it but that crazy bulge for the radiator tank just ruins the front lines, so I started doing a little research and discovered that if you use a 3.4 v6 MT radiator then it is several inches shorter. Not 100% on overall dimensions, but I know it is enough. Since everyone abandons the radiator mounted tranny cooler anyway then it just seems like a no brainer to just get a shorter radiator with a B&M cooler.

The Tacoma guys use them when they do SA swaps to help clear the spring hanger. Several folks sell the short body plastic tank units but I am looking for an all metal unit to go in just because it seems if I am going to go to all the trouble of doing all this work that I may as well try and find an all metal one.

Thanks. Would he need to have the donor vehicle handy or do you think he could quote one over the phone. I know what a new OEM one would cost me so having a quote would give me a good idea. It honestly doesn't even have to be all aluminum, just all metal, brass, copper, etc.

Anyone interested in an Aluminum Rad

Hey guys, bumping back to the top.

I talked to the guy at Four Seasons today and I am thinking about having them build me a custom all aluminum radiator. It should be pretty much a bolt in deal, going to have them eliminate the trans cooler since I am going to run a B&M, which should allow it to be 3"-4" shorter which should be about flush with the bottom of the frame rails. I need to get by and have him take some measurements and was curious if anyone else might be interested.

Price will probably be $450-$500, he just took a shot at it today and will probably firm it up once I have been able to sit down and actually iron out the details.

This not a group buy or anything, just thought if anyone was interested that I would share the info.

Did you check Mishimoto? They have tons of aluminum rads, might find one that is close to the right size.

I had not, but I checked them out after you posted it and they make Tundra, supra, corolla, celica, cressinda... but no Tacoma or 4Runner.

I have found them for up thru 95 pickups and 4runners, but no one seems to make a full aluminum, or all metal radiator for the newer models.

I called Griffin after finding a part number on Pirate that turned out to be a part number for a custom one he had build several years ago and they said that they could build me one, but would need a template. They are in Cali and I am in TN, not gonna happen. Called around locally and no one seems to build them in town, called Four Seasons and they said they could build one but also needed some measurements to work off of. They are only a couple hours down the road so if I can find a minute to run down there, or find one to send them to use as a template then I can have just what I want built.

Four Seasons was also about $200 cheaper on their phone quote then Griffin, so that helps.

I will keep you guys informed.

I looked for awhile after I broke off the plastic overflow spigot, the closest I came in my searching is this:

the csf 2304, is on paper your best bet, however there might be a local radiator fix it shop, hoping the dudes there are chatty, I'd ask about an all metal salvage yard swap, who knows maybe they know about that "88 Volvo curmudgeon" that will fit right in...

For now it is on hold. I need to do my timing belt and want to do the radiator while I am at it, so for the interim I have ordered a KOYO C1774 which is about 2" shorter than the stock rad. It is a two row unit designated for a tacoma that should, from my research, bolt right in. It should be here next week and I will keep you posted. Since most of the custom folks wanted some kind of core to work from, I figured I could keep the old one to send off to use to make a custom one at some point in the future.

Sorry, I really wanted this to go forward, but for now I have put it on hold.

I would venture to guess that the 2nd Gen radiator will not be a bolt in swap for your 3rd Gen.

There are 3 sizes of radiator for the Gen 3 models....and those have sub variations based on whether or not you need a built in trans cooler.

Rock Auto has dimensions for various radiators....but not bolt patterns.

The 3 sizes for the 3rd Gens are 18 11/16" core height, 20 3/4" core height and 22 5/8" core height. The largest one is ~28" tall overall....the medium is just under 26" tall and the smallest one is just above the bottom of the frame rails.

thank you for the reply. i dont need the one with the tranny cooler. ill try and get the dimensions of the 2nd gen radiator. If not im sure a stock radiator would do. i dont do much towing. my quad and trailer together are probably around 1200 lbs. just figured id try it while i had to get one anyways

EDIT: well it seems the 2nd gen radiator is smaller at 18 3/4 inches tall and 20 3/4 inch wide core. they are 1/4 inch thicker also
