Hope I am posting this in the right section; just wondering if anyone here lives (and wheels) near Idaho Springs, CO. I am new to the area, and would like to make some 4X friends! :hatsoff:

there are a lot of people from denver...just a quick trip down i70....i used to wheel up at empire...my car now needs work before i'll wheel her.
 
Hey thanks a lot guys, I have registered on both sites! Hoping to find someone nearby w/ a garage; I live in an apt and makes it hard to do any real work to my runner.

Oh and where exactly are those trails, and how does one go about getting permission to ride them? And has anyone here driven Oh My Gawd road yet? (connects Idaho Springs to Central City)

You don't need permission for either since they are public trails. Barbour Fork does close for Winter since it's calving grounds for elk and is much more fun than DC which is real easy. Now's the time to run it!

I have a double garage with just one rig at present.

If you need space for a weekend repair or upgrade just stay in touch.

I'm in Commerce City area.

Oh My God Road is not difficult whatsoever. Lots of folks that live in Idaho Springs use it to commute over to Central City/Blackhawk casinos.

Having said that does not give you carte blanche to drive it rally style with 2 wheels hanging off the side of the road...
 
be careful with the clubs/forums you join, some of them have "private" sections where only certain members can view, some have meeting that you have to go to, some have dues, some if you dont post regularly you will be deleted :nono:
they are all different, some are good, some are great, just a heads up :uzi:
all that being said, theres TONS of people that wheel regularly in the area :banana:

I'm in the Denver area as well (Englewood.)

Also I post a lot on Colorado4x4.org

My handle there is Zapp Branigan. ;)

Lots of great trails close to you - Yankee Hill, Kingston Peak, etc. Traildamage is a great resource.
 
That's right about the local clubs having a variety of conditions. I can say the only thing you have to watch for with Front Range 4x4 is being deleted for inactivity. FR4x4's focus is on wheeling, not web wheeling. If you don't log in to the forum for a couple months you're deleted, this keeps the "member" numbers real rather than clubs that have 20 active members and the forum shows they have 2,000+ members. There are no dues, no mettings, no leaders, no vehicle or experience requirements, etc. If you're looking for a 4Runner only club this isn't for you.

As an aside, I know this because I'm the founder of Front Range 4x4.
 
Wow thanks a lot for all the valuable info! Want bigger tires before I really start, right now all I have is 2.5" OME lift. Just bought an Offroad Logic front bumper, and plan on installing a 1" body lift and all the "adapters". Outside of that, don't know what else to do as it is still my DD but I also work in the casinos and can take OMG road to work when it is open, even though that is one scary drive! Rest assured, all tires will be on ground and knuckles white all the time! So yeah if anyone around here needs help I am usually free at night, and all day Thur and Fri, and when i get my bumper in 3-6 weeks I could use some help installing that and the 1" body lift, and new shocks, if anyone is interested. Alas, I do NOT have a garage...

Ive wheeled with them a few times, great bunch of people, that dont care what you drive... I just dont log in much lol but they are pretty cool.
