Anyone running E-rated KO2s on your 4th Gen?

It is time to switch out my DuraTracs. They are getting worn and loud. I recently bought a travel trailer (Lance 1575) and was thinking of tires that were a bit longer-lasting and quieter but still not basically oversized passenger car tires nor MTs.

So the KO2 came to mind and in the 265/65/17 size, they only come in E-rated tires. If I go C-rated, I have to bump up a size and then my speedo will be off and I may get slight front/tire rubbing on occasions where we get wet/sticky snow. The rubbing is rare but the speedo being off- that bugs me.

So should I consider the E-rated KO2s? I will if some of you guys have been running them on your 4Rs and do not think they are too stiff/harsh. I think they are around 4-5 lbs heavier than the 265/70/17s C-rated KO2s. I am more concerned about sidewall stiffness. Some E-rated tires (esp Nittos/Toyos) are very stiff and heavy and the ride is harsh. DuraTracs...not so much. I wasn't sure about the KO2s.

I run 285/70/17 KO2's E-Rated which replaced my DuraTracs. I'll give you my quick review/comparison - Duratracs are junk, noisy and have weak sidewalls. I will never buy them again after 3 sidewall failures. I expected the KO2's to be as noisy or more so but found them significantly quieter. Time will tell how that holds as I put on miles.

I also pull a travel trailer and am very happy with KO2's when pulling, daily driving and off-road. I don't think you'd regret going to KO2's.

Thanks CXS! What PSI are you running in the KO2s? My DuraTracs did get noisy after about 20,000 miles. I have have no other issues. I was just concerned about the stiffness of the KO2s in E. Do you find the pavement ride to be pretty good when compared to the DuraTracs?

38 psi is what I typically run them at and I find the ride better than the Duratracs. But it's really not a fair comparison - worn Duratracs vs new KO2's. I should have added that my sidewall issues were all off-road.

Yeah, the DuraTracs that are C rated do have pretty thin sidewalls. I don't do any heavy offroading with the 4Runner (dirt roads, easy trails) but it will be my daily driver and tow vehicle.

How heavy is the load you are towing? I tow my 20' Chris Craft on a steel trailer and my load is around ~4200lbs or so. I have C rated KO2 in 265/70 and they have been great for me. I also run them a t38psi. I had Michelin LTX AT2 before and the KO2 is marginally louder but I don't think my ride suffered at all. They have also been fantastic this winter in the snow/slush. I would absolutely buy them again!

It will be between 3,500-4,000 lbs max, so not super heavy. I like the KO2s in C as well but I guess if the front ever does rub in the winter, I can put a 1" spacer in there. The speedo discrepancy is a more complex fix, and one I nee to research.

Wish I had an easy way to flip between 265/65/17 (my Blizzaks) and 265/70/17 (C-rated KO2s) when it came to adjusting the speedo. Not a huge deal. I'm just wired to be a bit picky with stuff like that.

The DuraTracs will wear super fast if pulling a trailer, and they get loud after 20K.

I've got e rated KO2's in size 275/70r18 and they're great. Super quiet, smooth, and my gas mileage went up from the same size ST MAXX that I had on before. I average 17.5 which I don't think is bad for a lifted 4runner on 33's. Haven't gotten to test them too much off road but the little bit I have, they never failed me.

I'll swap back to my DuraTracs next weekend and then decide. Since I already have true snow tires, my tire guy recommends the C-rated KO2s if I can live with the speedo being off 3-5 mph. I'll see if I have any other C-rated options in 265/65/17 before deciding.

I do want to chime in on the speedo being off. As you go from 265/65 to 265/70 the circumference of the tire only increases by about 3.5%. With that being said your speedo will only be off by 3.5% so if the speedo says your doing 80 mph, at most you are really only goin 82-83 mph. And if I remember correctly, I have read that most manufactures build the speedos with it showing you 2-3% faster than what you're actually doing, so they almost cancel out. Sorry if this doesn't really make sense. But really the speedo won't be off that much if at all with the bigger tires.

I am running the 265/70 c rated with a daystar level kit. No rub. They did very slightly before the level.

I found with stock tires on both 3rd gen and 4th gen at 70mph my speedo read 2mph faster than i was driving. +1 size tires from factory put it dead nuts on.

Thanks for the input. I did a comparo once with the bigger tires and 2 diff speedo apps. I was 3 mph or so faster at 70ish. I think this is the way I am leaning now...the 265/70/17. I'll put a small spacer in front if needed. That should be easy enough and not change angles much.

I get 17ish in mixed driving and 18-21 doing 60-70 or below (55 mph) I can even get 22-23. However, when I tow, the mileage drops to ~9-12 depending on speed and elevation. While towing, I stay in 4th gear though and never 5th. I'd get 2-3 more in 5th gear but I also chance blowing up the transmission.
