anyone running LTB's?

I'm looking at buying new tires soon and I've got my eyes on some 34x10.50r16 LTB's. anyone running these?

I realize they won't be best for the road, but my 4runner will not be a DD anymore. My only concern is how they will do on wheeling trips, witch are sometimes 2+ hour drives.

I don't have any personal experience with them but I would stick to a radial tire. You can get a nice aggressive M/T in many brands. Just my $.02 bias ply scares me off.

Incredible vibration, all bumps are transmitted through suspension and steering because the sidewall and tread are one unit in a bias ply tire, whereas in a radial tire, the sidewall is separate from the tread and the sidewall acts as part of your suspension.
LTB's have thick sidewalls, so they may do very well offroad but only offroad.

The LTB's are great tires from what I've read (no experience obviously) but, if it were me, I'd run a TSL SX over the LTB, unless you're just looking for a narrow tire.

If your runner is not a DD anymore, I'd look into a 36x12.5x16 TSL SX, they run small. The SX is one of the toughest tires on the market.

From what I have seen, but not experienced they also wear very unevenly and are near impossible to keep balanced. Now the sidewalls are very tough, but with modern radial designs I'm not too sure how much tougher they can really be. What made you think you want these?

I had TSL Thornbirds on my old Ford truck and drove it on the road plenty - even 5 hr trips. Since it's not going to be a DD anymore - I would think the LTBs will last you a long time and be fine. If you like the hum of mud tires on the road, you'll love them! Unless you've got a deal somewhere though - they are pretty pricey!

Depends on what type of offroading you do. If your rock crawling, there are MANY MT tires that are much better than an LTB or Swamper for that matter. And most of them have better on-road manners as well. If your playing in mud holes close to home, then the LTB or Swamper SX is a good choice.

I like my 255/85r16 km2's, but I can go slightly bigger. I have around an inch of clearance at any given point (at full bump) with no trimming.

I would also like to stay with stock wheels if I can. skinny tires let me do this with less rubbing issues on the upper control arm and wheel wells.

I think 315's would be too much for me at my lift height (2in sus. and 1in body) and I really don't want to go any higher.

I like your thinking as far as size but looking at the specs I doubt these swampers will be any bigger than a 255/85. Interco specs the tires as 33.6" x 9.3". If they are any larger than the 255's it won't be enough to notice in my opinion.

Have you considered a 295/75r16? At that width you may run into UCA issues but is an option to get a little more height without going to a 315.

ive known a few people that ran the LTB's, they seem to work well.
personally, I prefer the SX's myself. not sure if they come in a size/price you need tho.

not really. haha. something about how the carcass can mold to the terrain better or some shit. lots of info out there about it.

bias ply for off road, radial for on road.

Iroks are kind of blurring that line. typically, a good radial will work better in the snow, but everything ive read says the irok bias is nearly as good as the radial. and most people say for the added strength to go with the bias irok, because radial side walls are WEAK, particularly the irok.

the only taller tires I can find in 16in rim and 10.50 width, and with aggressive tread are bias ply; LTB's TSL's and the Q78's.

looks like I've got 3 options now.
1. get the bias ply and deal with the vibes
2. get another set of 255's
3. say screw it, beat in the wheel wells and get some 315's

I vote for #3. always number 3.

the largest tire you can run with the least amount of lift is the way to go.

Used to daily drive a truck that had 36" Swamper SX bias plys, once they get warmed up the bounciness goes away, and you could not tell the difference from the Radial Swampers it had before, but if you can pull it off, bigger tires are always better.

Yup they are awesome tires, and mine are for sale in the classifieds here since I went to 37's. I love em, just too small for my setup.

Hankook makes their m/t in a 295. They have great reviews, and I almost went that route and probably will next time I need rubber.
