Anyone swap MT tires for ATs?

I'm currently running toyo mt tires but I'm thinking for my use I'm better off with all terrains. They don't look nearly as aggressive but are easily over ten poundslighter per corner while running wider. Also better grip in the rain, snow and has improved ride characteristics.

But boy the mid terrains do look good! Any regrets? Thanks!

Get some Duratrac's! They are the meatest of the A/T tire out there. Handle great in the rain and snow and have excellent on road manners. Here is a pic of mine right after they were installed, 285/70-17. More info on them here: Goodyear*Wrangler DuraTrac

I just went the other way, A/T to M/T, but I can definitely see the appeal of going the direction you're pondering. I loved my A/T's, just wanted something bigger and meaner. Duratracs are definitely not out of the question for me on the next set. I just got such a great deal on these M/T's that I couldn't pass on them.

So Beretta, you don't like the General Red Letters? I've been curious about them for a long time. They're sexy as hell.

Unless you do serious off-roading..then you don't need MT tires. Some 30+ years ago I use to do some serious off-roading with my Ford F-150. Put on some hugh mud tires. But they were LOUSY for dry or wet driving...And weren't that good in snow either. I moved and no longer did the serious off-roading....I switched to AT's. Far better on the streets in ALL conditions then the MT's ever were.

I have always run ATs on my 4runner (3rd gen). Almost everyone I wheel with run MTs. There have been a couple of times that I have felt that I could have made it thru an obstacle a little easier if I had MTs. I wheel dry rocky trails, no mud. I wheel level 6 and 7 trails and usually do the hardest lines.

On road, ATs are THE way to go. They track well with less squirm and in the rain and snow they go great.

In deep snow (12"+) MTs would do better (winter snow wheeling).

MTs will always look way better on a rig than an AT. At times I look at my Yokohama A/T-S and wish they looked as rugged as they are.

My next tires will probably be back to the BFG ATs. The Yokos are a better snow tire but the BFGs do look more rugged.

I would say some cooper ATP or the AT3 I am running some ATP and I love them ride good on the road an a great tire in the mud. I have a buddy that is running the AT3 after have the km2 and he like them better than the KM2

I'll take an AT tire over a MT tire in snow any day of the week.

MT tires are designed to ride on top..and not dig deep down to the hard packed snow or road. Skinny AT tires are the BEST in snow.

I'm talking about miles of deep snow off road wheeling.
On road, ATs all the way. The best "snow" tires will hold the snow in the treads. This snow will stick to the snow on the roads, like making snowballs.

Got the toyo ATs put on today. Wow so much smoother and quieter. But definitely much less aggressive a look. Tough call. I still have both sets as the mt tires only have 4k miles on them. All hwy.
