Anyone Use Fram's Sure Drain Oil Hose?

Yesterday at Pep Boys I ran across Fram's Sure Drain mechanism for changing oil for $9.95. Seems like it would make things a lot less messy during oil change, but wondered if there was any down side that any of you might have discovered? In essence, it is a permanent replacement for the oil drain bolt, with a twist mechanism which opens the bolt to open the channel and drain the oil, and a small hose which goes on at the time of the oil change. Once you put the hose on and point it into the proper receptacle, you turn the new oil drain bolt to the open position which starts the oil pouring through the hose. Once drained, twist the new oil drain bolt again to shut it off, take off the hose and you are done. Seems almost too good to be true! Any experience or comments?

I have one installed in my truck It makes oil changes easier and cleaner. All you have to do is connect the hose to the adapter and the other end in an oil recovery pan. I love it!

I installed 1 on every car I and my wife own. It's the 1st thing I do on my 1st oil change. The one I use is fumoto. Is it the same brand that PepBoys is selling?

I chose the one that doesn't have a nipple for attaching the hose as on the 4runner, it just points straight down.

The Fumato oil drain valve claims that Toyota has granted it oem status, any way to find out if this is true?

well first off it doesn't say that toyota gave it OEM status... it does say that "Genuine Parts" status by 5 major motor vehicle manufacturers in Japan, including Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Isuzu

my other concern is the following:

Drive carefully at all times, and if you run over any foreign object on the road, pull over and check the valve for any damage or leak.


Definetely not a device for the offroader...

I installed a Fumoto on my 4R. Haven't changed the oil yet with it, should make it a lot easier.
The valve is protected by the skid plate so I don't think there are any issues with off-roading.

I dont put alot of stock in that skid plate, since its millimeters thick. When I had it off checking out underneath the truck last week I could bend it easily. Imagine a rock smacking against it.

I agree, I use the term "skid plate" very loosely, since it is basically nothing more than a splash guard.
The drain valve does have "some" protection though. If you are going to do some rough off-roading with it, I'd be checking more than the drain plug.

I beg to disagree. I had a 1990 full size Bronco before I bought a 2003 4Runner. I bought the Bronco new in 1990 and I installed a Fumoto valve at its 1st oil change. I took my Bronco offroad pretty often and the bronco didn't even have a skid plate under the oil drain plug like the 4Runner. It never leaked a single drop of oil in 13 years that I owned it (got rid of it when it had 160k miles).

The Fram Sure Drain is not the same as the Fumoto, they are two different animals. I have the Fram Sure Drain installed and it does as adverstised. Makes for easier oil changes.

I have the Fram and it is great. And as stated before the valves on the Fumoto and the Fram operate differently and I trust the Fram one more just because I think the design is better.
