Anyone with this setup???

Great, glad you're happy with the outcome. Looks excellent, especially those tires!!!

Thanks Ark, you were a great help. It was taking a chance a little since no-one has this exact setup. Thanks for the encouragement to do it myself. I only broke one ratchet! Going to Downieville, CA this w/e to do some ridin' and wheelin'! :reddance:

So mtnbiker: You ended up doing the FJ suspension with a 2" lift in front and 1.5" in back? Do you have any shots straight on from the side so we can see the stance better (hard to judge when it's at an angle). Also, do you have before/after measurements of the wheel wells and running boards? I'm planning to do this too but with a DS 2.5/1.5 and I've been thinking about machinging the fronts down slightly. Thanks for the help and pictures.

I do have before and after measurements. I'll post them as soon as I get the chance (read: find that piece of paper). I got approx 2.75" overall front and 2.25" rear before tires which gave about another .5". The running boards are about level, which I wanted.

mtnbiker - I think I'm in the exact same boat.

Could you post URL's to every part you had to buy? I'm not going to install myself, I don't think...but I'd like to bring the shop every part they may need.

I want a 3" lift and level, while retaining a decent ride quality. I was thinking 3/2 cornfed spacer but FJ suspension is probably better. Any reason you didn't just go with a 3/2 spacer?

I'm sort of a suspension noob so go easy.

Toytec.com had what I needed. Spacers and diff drop. Bought the suspension off of fjcruiserforums.com. Go to their classifieds, you'll find a suspension there. It's easier than I though it would be to install. You should give it a shot.

The quality of ride is very noticeable. More responsive and firmer. No more nose dive during breaking or body lean cornering. (during normal driving conditions...professional driver, closed course):zoom:

FJ Suspensions are easy to find and inexpensive so why not go that route instead of just spacers? Ride quality.

I didn't see anywhere that you mentioned whether or not you you had XREAS previously. My truck has XREAS and 123k miles and I'm thinking I can't be too far off from needing shocks. I'm thinking about just switching to a Bilstein FJ setup but I've always liked the idea of XREAS, but I'm not sure how much it does in reality. I'm guessing the stiffer springs from and FJ will make up for any reduction of roll from the XREAS.

What spacers did you have to buy? And help a noob understand diff drop? Any links to learn more about it?

I didn't (don't) have XREAS. But I get no body roll now.

The Toytec spacers I bought are TAC2 Front 2" spacers (ano black), and FJRS-15 1.5" Lift Black Poly Spacers.

I went ahead and got the diff drop kit because no one really new how much lift I would get from these spacers and the FJ suspension on my V6. 3" and less you do not need a diff drop. In the end, I'm just shy of 3" but it's installed and I have piece of mind.

You lower your differential so you do not stress out your CV joints. Too much of an angle on those and you'll be replacing them before long $$$. There is a good thread here with pics somewhere, unfortunatly I can't find it now :nono:

So I'm still trying to decide what to do on mine. In researching, I have found some people remove the factory rubber spring isolator and some leave it. What did you do? If it's about 1/4" that would be around 1/2" difference of lift one way or the other.

If you left it in with the 2" net front and 1.5" rear and FJ suspension then it would be about the same as if I took it out with the 2.5" net front and 1.5" rear. If you took it out, I might look into modifying my 2.5 so it's more like a 2. I just don't want to have a sagging rear end with only a little load in the back (normal gear, etc). Any help from anyone would be appreciated. Will I be level (running boards) with FJ suspension and a easy install DS 2.5/1.5? What about with just a DS 2.5/1.5 and no FJ suspension?

THANKS!

mtnbiker...looks great!!! very similar to what i have. here is my whored out picture again, i like showing it off.

I left the rubber spring isolator in on the new FJ coils. It never occured to me to remove them. I think I would recommend going ahead with the 2.5/1.5 daystar lift and the FJ suspension. I cannot express how happy I am with the FJ suspension, it rides very well. Your running boards will probably have the slightest reverse rake (front high) probably less than .5". I'm assuming this on a V6. Oh yeah, if you do, you might be just a bit over 3" in the front. You may want to consider a diff drop if you go this route. It's super easy to install, only 2 bolts and a couple of spacers for your skid plates.
