Well that I know of I haven't had any yet, but 89FourRunner mentioned that my vacuum hoses being as bad as they are could mean that the seal in my damper could be getting old too, so I'm just playing it safe and gonna go ahead and replace it while its easily accessible :thumb:
 
Anyone know what all these are? One of mine is broke completely off, I mean I can't really even tell what it looked like. I know one is the bimetallic valve, and of course the hose, but I have no idea what to order in replacement of the destroyed one

In other news, i was installing a new Bimetallic valve today, grinded a groove in a 19 mm socket for the 2 male vacuum nubs to fit in, about 2-3 turns in, snap....$60 fitting broke in 10 seconds lol.

Probably just gonna try to barb the 2 vacuum lines together. PITA

Look at the center of this one ( for another vehicle ) 1992 1996 Toyota Camry Engine Cooling Fan Switch | eBay

it seems to have the same center as the bottom of your broken part

After going to my local parts store and taking a random stab at finding it, it turned out to be the coolant temp sensor (duh). Feel kinda stupid now haha. Anyhow, about that bimetallic valve, those things are very fragile! I'm waiting till the absolute last second I can to put my new one on so there's less room for it to break. I just ordered a new knock sensor wire today as well so that stalls the project for another 5 days, but in the mean time I'm cleaning out my oil pan real good and cleaning up little brackets that have 22 years of gunk built up on them. And here's a bit of an updated pic, not much due to waiting for parts to come in, but slowly getting there!

Hey thought i'd pass this along too for any readers needing to do the valve swap....just remembered this from yesterday, you CANNOT install the bimetallic valve in place with all that crap around it. I filed off 1/8" from each male barb due to them hitting the fuel damper so i could install it w/out removing the damper or the fuel rail. You got that engine so clean you could serve dinner on it !!. Lovin' the pics

This may be a dumb question so excuse my ignorance...but if I had it would it be obvious? I have a pic so if you see it could you point it out to me? I didn't see anything, but again I'm not an expert on these (yet!) :D

It's on the engine itself. Drivers side, on the outside of the block, just above the oil pan, Round thing (tuna can size), big bolt thru the middle with a couple hoses on it.

Oh okay, and yea I replaced that coolant line, it was so old and deteriorated it felt like foam :shocked:
 
Little bit of an update:
Finally got my knock sensor wire in, didn't really have much time to work on it though due to getting off work at 7, but I at least got the lower intake cleaned out and put on. Broke the little electrical connector thing (on that little seperate piece on the back of the intake) with the resistor on it in the process tho, go figure. So after Christmas I'll run by RadioShack or something and pick up another resistor, should be an easy fix. But tomorrow should be the day for the timing and oil pan (I've been procrastinating on the pan), and it should be pretty close to being ready to drop back in!

Well got back out in the garage today after I finally got the new oil pan bolts and all new exhaust manifold nuts. Torqued the manifolds on except the crossover pipe, I found that it's super super easy to access the top two bell housing bolts if you just leave the lower intake off and after you set the engine down in the bay, loosen and move the crossover pipe back against the firewall and bam, a little tight space but your top two bolts are right there, just get you a decent sized wrench and no problem (I'm sure many of you have discovered this, it's just for the next guy who hasn't :yo: ). I also cleaned out the inside of my throttle bottle, holy $h!t there was some nasty gunk on the intake side of the butterfly. By the way, is there an easy way to clean out the upper intake? If I had a skinny foot long soft wire brush it'd work, but maybe there's another way? It's pretty gunked up as well, I'd like to clean it out good so it doesn't get in the new engine.
Wednesday I'll be celebrating New Years eve in the garage with family, beer, and finally dropping it back in. Here's how she sits now :thumb:

Is that the 220 pc Craftsman set for 79.99 on the floor? I snagged one during the online black friday thing. That engine's looking sweet man !!

I think that one is like 180 piece or something, I've had it for a while I'm not too sure. It's just added to the collection of tools in the garage now, I swear it's like a museum in there!
 
Alright a bit of an update! The little bit of time I've had to work on this has finally added up and I'm just a mere few days from having her back on the road and in the trails! All that's left is the EGR, Reed Valve, belts, little connections here and there, radiator/fan, upper intake and the maze of vacuum hoses (finishing up the wiring harness now)
