Greetings All,
I changed the oil in my girlfriend's 05 Highlander V6 yesterday and I was very surprised at what I saw under the oil cap. Maybe i'm over reacting, but none of my vehicles have looked even remotely this "sludgy" at this stage. I know NOTHING about sludged up motors, so there's a high possibility I have no idea what i'm talking about lol.
Background info on Highlander: Purchased new by my Grandmother in 2005. Currently has 83967 miles on it. It was gifted to me and my girlfriend after my grandmother passed away last May. My girlfriend drives it daily, and it runs like an old sewing machine. There are literally no problems with the vehicle other than potentially sludgy engine.
I'm not sure of my grandparent's maintenance habits.....I ran the VIN on Toyota's Owners app and only see one service record from 2010, unrelated to anything oil/oil change.
Since we've owned it, we've done nothing but regular oil changes every 4-5k miles. Yesterday I changed the oil to Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30.
I was thinking of running some seafoam through the oil towards the end of this oil change to clear some of the sludgy out. this might be opening a can of worms I dont want, i.e. if it aint broke dont fix it...
Am I over reacting here? Does this look normal for a 10 year old vehicle with only 83k miles?
