Anyway to disable the seatbelt chime?

Dealership can do it. Otherwise theres a switch in the seatbelt (08 Tundra atleast) thats held up by a spring and pushed down by the seatbelt. Take out the spring and gravity holds the switch down thus vehicle thinks seatbealt is on.

I called my dealer and they said they couldn't do it because that was considered disabling a safety feature. Don't know if that's true or if the guy just didn't know how... but no luck there.

No luck on my Trail...tried about 5 times using the suggested methods with nutin honey.:cursin:

When I go in for the first oil change shortly I'll ask the tech.

Thanks guys - I would be curious to see what they tell you. Sounds like dealers dont like to do it, even though its listed as a customizable in the manual. So far I have seen two valid suggestions; disableing the swich in the the seatbelt reciever or wraping the seatbelt around the back of the seat. Prefer the former.

Tried all of the methods found on this forum to disconnect the seat belt chime on my 2010 4Runner but no luck in disabling the chime. If anyone finds the answer for the 2010 4Runner please post it. Thanks

Same issue with my Rav4. Apparently you have to go to the dealer to tell them to do it. It's one of the customizable features but for me, the dealer wouldn't do it cause they said it was diasbling a safety feature. The method shown in this thread apparently only works on non-North American models. However, I heard it works on NA FJ Cruisers.

OK here is the issue with this - I am with ciaz - I use the seatbelt 99% of the time just don't want the annoying warning when I don't.

So my dealer is with several others here. He says they won't due it because of liability. Now if you go to the manual page 643 of the manual (on Toyota website) makes this one of several features that the manual SPECIFICALLY states can be adjusted. Now I tried that route with my dealer and he still said no. I would bring in the manual to my dealer (if I were you guys) and see what they say.

Now with that said my dealer then added the following information. He said - email Toyota and tell them you want it disabled. If they open a case and request the dealer to do it then they will go ahead. This is so that the liability rests with Toyota and not the dealer. To me Toyota already approves it since they list it as a feature they allow to be disabled. I think if a couple of us asked at the same time it would be better. So I am all for going on the Toyota website say tomorrow Tuesday and submit my claim. I think a few others should as well and then we can compare answers. List the issue (seat belt chime), say that page 643 says it can be done and that the dealer doesn't think they are allowed to and to request Toyota to authorize it......

I haven't asked my local dealer yet, but i will. in the mean time, post the email address and i'll send a request also.

Yes, this is what happened with my Rav4. They refuse to do it. However, some other Rav4 owners had no problem and if they did have problem from one dealer, they just went to another one. However, I'm not willing to pay to have it done and all the other dealers will charge so I'm just leaving mine. It's not a big enough issue for me to pay for it.

this one is specific to the 2009 toyota suv's including 4runner and highlander but seems similar to my previous post.

How to disable the seatbelt chime in a Toyota SUV | eHow.com

give it a go and if it doesn't work maybe they changed it for the 2010's

I found similar instructions on clublexus.com (sorry, didn't save the link.) Tried it on an '08 IS and it took me 3 tries. Third try worked after actually starting the vehicle, not just engaging the IGN ON. It's not a T4R but I doubt the method has changed.

I called my local dealership Waite Toyota in Watertown, NY and they wanted $75 (one hour labor) to change some of the customizable settings on my new T4R. I then called the dealership I purchased the vehicle from Bur**** Toyota in Cicero, NY and they said it would be free of charge as a courtesy to their customers. I made an appointment and gave them a print out of the options I wanted changed including turning the seatbelt buzzer off. They did not bat an eye and they even wash it for me.

Out of curiosity do you mind sharing what all you had them change?

Im hoping to take my SR5 in and have them turn off the Seatbelt chime and turn on the unlock button window roll down.

Im interested in what else they can "customize"

Try checking the manual. I'd look in the contents under the section labeled "Customizable options".

Page 643 of your owner's manual; this is a customizable option that can be turned on or off by the dealer. Why you would not want to be reminded to put on your seat belt is beyond me but the Darwin Awards are always looking for new candidates.

Because the seatbelt (a) doesn't fit my dog well, (b) is useless for the pile of boxes and gear I have on the passenger seat, and (c) is annoying when pulling the car forward after washing it.

Besides, people who need to be reminded to put on their seatbelts are the ones we want weeded out of the gene pool. Your logic skillz are broked.

and you give me a hard time... good grief. Yeah, I love when I'm off-roading and I have to worry about the frickin seat belt warning. Luckily I'll get that taken care of next week.

I had a case of water sitting in the passenger seat and the passenger seatbelt light was flashing (and the airbag was on too). I'm glad the dealer turned off the warning chime so I didn't have to listen to it on the way home...

Putting on my seatbelt is an instinct. If I am doing anything where a seatbelt is recommended, then it's already on. I don't use it in the driveway or yard... I don't use it hunting, fishing, camping or hiking... anything on the road (or even a parking lot) is a different story. Its usually on before I start moving.

Plus, it's fairly hard to miss the flashing red seatbelt lights on the dash that remain on. :)

I made one snarky comment, I didn't come back and repeatedly trash the thread.

You and others bring up legitimate reasons for not wanting the passenger side warning to go off. It never occurred to me because I always have someone riding shotgun when I go offroad, I'd never let a dog sit in the front seat, and I keep cargo in the cargo area, not the front seat.

I still don't see the advantage to driving off road with no seatbelt on. Maybe someone could explain the benefit?

But do you see the benefit in weeding out the lesser humans who need to be reminded to put on their seatbelts?
