Anyway to disable the seatbelt chime?

Very cool.

Anybody get just the rear window to do the same thing? I've heard this is a lost function from earlier versions...

It appears that function disappeared. I can't roll my rear window down with the fob. I can roll all my windows down (and moonroof) but not the rear window. Since I have smartkey, I can use the arrows on the back of the truck to roll it down (non-smartkey can insert the key into the back door as before). It's a minor PIA in my opinion, but I guess that's just the way it is now...

I just went to my dealer and got these changes made. I sat there with the tech with his laptop as we ran through the changes. I changed the rear wiper interval and did the auto window/moon roof down. the tech (young kid) hadn't worked on any 5th gens asked if I wanted the seatbelt chime off. I said no, I alway buckle anyway and need the reminder. I figured if I had it off, I would go miles before remembering myself. I did have them disable the passenger side. sometimes I have heavy enough gear on the seat to trigger it. But this tech had no problem turning it off. So if you want yours off at the dealer, maybe ask the most inexperienced tech. or slide your tech a $20.

Ha. I love idiots that have to give their opinion on wearing seat-belts. The thread was a question on how to disable the seat-belt annoyance. Not a question of your opinion.

And I agree with the poster who said that we should weed out these idiots that need a chime to remind them to put their seat-belt on.

Idiots I tell you!

So. How do I turn this freaking annoying beep off!!!!!!!!

thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU! Its no wonder we are in the mess we are with the Nanny State. Everybody is a damn nanny these days.

I still don't see the advantage to driving off road with no seatbelt on. Maybe someone could explain the benefit?

Okay, take for instance a Texas Beach. You just got out of the water and get semi dry. Throw a towel in the seat and choose to roll down the beach a bit to look for birds bombing the water, or in the surfer case a better break. You are cruising down the beach driving a straight line at a pretty slow pace. There is almost no chance of getting t-boned from over the dunes or from the surf. The seatbelt would only soak up water from the trunks. So I don't really think I need a self destruct warning to hender my enjoyment of my cigar, tranquility of the surf, music. You tend to drive scooted to the front of your seat hunched over your steering wheel with your gaze on the water, chest just inches from the wheel. A seat belt just doesn't work in that situation.

Also, I live on a culdesac. So I usually back out and start driving down the street before I fasten, and I do. But for it to be ringing an apocolyptic tone at me before I get two houses down is outrageous. Granted, I'm not used to the rig, I still have paper tags at the moment having just traded in my Gen 4. I'm not opposed an alarm, just let it go away rather than the whole thermo nuclear reactor meltdown obnoxious bas**** alarm that it is.

I hear you on that, I have to drive up 6 houses each morning to drop my son off at the bus stop before heading to work and I find myself having to buckle up for that, it's insane! There should have been an option to turn the dang chimes off...

I talked to my dealer that is about 2 hours away if I could bring it in to get the chime disabled and instead they said they would send me a device that I could stick in the seatbelt latch to stop the chiming, free of charge. I said great. Well, it showed up today and it is just a seatbelt extender. Just like what they have on airplanes for large people. It does the trick, but extends the belt about 6". Better than nothin I guess.

You should feel lucky you got a setbelt extender, because Toyota generally doesn't freely give them away; there is some paperwork and measurements to be done to get those extenders. IMO, the seatbelt extender is the best method/compromise to disable the chime and the warning light. I was able to get a couple of them for the driver/passenger. I had them in my GMs and 2 Toyotas and I think they work the best. It's also easier for me to use the seatbelt. (And I'm not fat).

Too bad Toyota doesn't give us another method to disable the chime and warning light.

I'm getting a 2012 4r in fall so I'll let you know what the dealer says. I'm sure they will do it or I'll just tell them I'm going to another dealer.

This is pretty essential for me as I drop boats in the water a lot and I need to get in and out of the car a few times if I'm alone. I also turn around when I'm backing it down, so it's easier to have the seat belt off.

I also put crap on my front seat because I have too much gear usually.

My 2011 SR5 has a separate trip meeter so the OBO does not apply. Has anyone found a way to disable a 2011?

for those that put heavy stuff on the passenger side and dont want the warning. just bucket the passenger seat belt before you put stuff on it. heck, do that for the driver side and than sit down.
other than that, you will need toyota's tech-stream to make any changes which sucks cause most will charge you. as a tech i know i wont do it for free, sorry but free work wont pay my bills

Seatbelt problem

SIMPLE SOLUTION! Go to the junk yard and get a couple seat belt snaps that are close and take them home and grind the sides off to fit. Put them in, in place of seat belts when you don't want the belts I make a number of short moves in my 4Runner and got tired to listening to the buzzer also. All I could find at the junk yard were Honda seatbelts so I used their snaps. I had to grind the width off them.

hahah....just did this for ANTMAN today!

...and programmed my windows to roll down with the remote, and changed the delay on my rear wiper, and changed the exterior lighting time, and gave me a T-shirt, and a catalog, and free coffee(ok, he did owe me a coffee), and took me for a shop tour, and traded me my storage shelf for some PIAA bulbs, and on and on...

Ducmonsta is the man! Check out his shop!
