AO Enterprises replacement leather shift boot install question

I ordered one of these replacement shift boots for my 1997 5-spd from AO Enterprises on ebay to replace my worn out OEM leather (vinyl, pleather, whatever it is) boot. I swear that I've seen multiple threads reference this boot with positive reviews which is why I ordered it, but now I'm not finding anything about it when I search. It comes with an elastic bottom and you're supposed to reuse the factory frame. Has anyone done this and did it hold well enough without the frame being stitched into the bottom of the boot? I guess I'm looking for reassurance before I cut my factory boot up since I can't go back at that point.

Sorry to revive and old thread.

Did you ever figure this out? Just purchased one and I’m trying to find out how to put it on.

Mine was worn on the top where fingers hit it. I just rolled the top inside around a rubber stopper so worn area is hidden. I have a short throw Hurst, but you could maybe do something like this as an option. The OEM fit is best.

Ok thanks for your advice. I was able to figure it out. I basically cut the old one off and used the metal frame to secure the new one back on. Really fits perfect and I recommend to anyone who is looking to get an oem replacement at 1/8 the cost!
