Anyone familiar with the app radio by pioneer? If I can get a double DIN unit that can mimic the screen of my iphone, use supported apps directly and unsupported apps indirectly using the display out app from cydia, I'll prolly buy one this week. I just want to make sure, not to buy an older model , when a newer one is less than 3 months in the future.

I saw a couple old threads on the Appradio and it's bugs.
My main concern is to be able to get a display out from my iphone 4s and use compatible apps with the capacitive screen.
Does not need to have GPS or DVD but if it does, it is not a deal breaker.
Does not need to be pioneer, does not specfically need to be the app radio1/2 just the best implementation if it.
What are my options?

I just purchased the Appradio 2. I will have it installed on Friday. The Appradio only supports a limited amount of apps, it will not support all your apps on your iphone. below is a link to the supported apps. The only reason I bought the Appradio is because I wanted to get rid of my GPS and have a unit that charges my iphone. Plus I got it out the door for $460 installed to include 4 years insurance from Bestbuy.

Dude for $500 you can get a much better stereo like a Kenwood Excelon or Alpine with built in 4V pre-outs and HD-Radio (single DIN).
Or do what I did and buy a classic Alpine for $100 and new faceplate for ~ $110, then you will have ~ $300 left over to spend on new speakers and an AMP!

But that would not do what I am trying to achive. I want to be able to get a video out to my DoubleDin HU from my iphone and watch streams on the screen while listening to the audio through my speakers. This thing also handles navigation and bluetooth connectivity, all my music is on my iphone anyways, I am not a big fan of any kind of radio, maybe just a bit pandora. I just want to be able to skip any song at any minute, so I need to have the songs that I wanna listen to with me. I am pretty sure they will come with a comptible web browser soon, so it will be like having a car pc ( oldachool people used to do that alot and I always wanted one). So HD radio, single din etc.. do not do much for me. I had single din alpine's with JL audio w6v2 sub Jl 4channel and Jl 1 channel amps with kevlar speakers etc... I am kinda done with all that also, so yeah an app radio is the best choice. The only thing that can be upgraded for me are more apps, bigger higher quality screen, faster transition, less lag etc... not pre outs and HD radio and XM and 12cd changer and this and that...

Sorry it was $490 I forgot to add the cost of tax. But my wife works part time at bestbuy so she gets really good deals on accessories, installation, and insurance.
Andy remember that the Appradio has a WVGA (800x480) screen so it won't be anywhere near HD video. Not sure what the quality is because it wasn't set up at bestbuy
Also I don't think you can buy a double din for $500 that includes GPS, Bluetooth, iphone connector. Usually you have to buy additional parts. I maybe wrong!

The App Radio has resolution of like 800x400 with a 4" screen...
It won't be like a pc, more like a min netbook you have to lean into to use.
The app radio sounds cool but has bad reviews on Amazon. I think the reason is because it isnt a very good radio.

But what are the reviews on the AppRadio2 like? I've always been a fan of Pioneer head units, and since I don't care so much about pounding my music these days, the features included (bluetooth, ipod support w/ apps, etc) make the Pioneer the bang for the buck leader IMO. Maybe the pre-outs on the Kenwood/Alpine are better, but I'm not planning to run amps, so who cares?
Thats appradio 1 many bugs, slow boot, sluggish small screen, and it sells for $299, this is appradio 2 i dont know the resolution but it is supposedly much imroved over the older one and a 7 inch screen.

I just installed Pioneer's new AVH-4400 and it does exactly what I want:
(1) Bluetooth connectivity for phone
(2) Bluetooth music streaming from iphone
(3) Bluetooth video streaming from iphone
(4) ipod dock in glove box for non-bluetooth devices or to just charge my iphone.
(5) Plays DVDs etc too but won't use that function
It doesn't have Navi and can't operate apps but it's a great unit for the 'basics'.
I don't really see the point in the apps on the screen other than (1) Navi would be alright (2) Love to have streaming sports scores (3) I guess Pandora or something would be OK but a bit unecessary if you have your phone loaded with MP3s anyways.

Here you go man! I love my Appradio 2. The only complaint is those stupid warnings that pop up saying it's illegal to watch movies. If you do decide to get this radio than you need to watch you data limits. for instance the GPS is used from your phone and can use a lot of data.

I just installed the AVIC-Z130BT and I absolutely love it! Built in voice operated Nav with 3D maps, streaming music, built in bluetooth, backup camera ready, DVD play plus an easy bypass that allows you to watch DVD's while driving, super easy Pandora control, access to Facebook through the radio, built in HD tuner, etc...pretty awesome, sounds amazing!!!
