i had an FJ previously and i could go pretty much anywhere in it at stock height. i compared the approach and departure angles between the FJ and 4Runner and not sure if i can get to the same areas i had in the past since the approach angle is less than the FJ. Anyone venture out into some good trails yet to see where you can go? i am thinking i will at least need a 3" lift or maybe i am too worried about taking it out.

You need to get the 5th gen TRAIL EDITION. The TE has 34 degrees of approach, same as the current FJ. The TE has 26 degree of departure angle, which is less than the current FJ (30 degrees).

i already have a sr5 and there were only a couple te's around me when i was buying which meant they were not budging on price. i went to another dealer and got a great deal at the time (before all the recalls) for the sr5 with everything i wanted. i will eventually lift it, but i want to take it off road except i can't get where i want to go without damage. i could be over thinking it and it may clear, but don't want to risk it just yet.
