They'll keep cars from slamming their doors into yours in the parking lock. They're good protection for "in case" something happens off road. Say you slip into a rut or off a rock and into a wall or something. I've been fortunate that I haven't had to use my sliders, but I have them as a just in case measure.
There's a couple trails I've been through, particularly one out in Joshua Tree twice, where it's a tight S curve between two boulders in sandy conditions where you want to keep your speed up going between them. Either side you could hit a slider if you get too close or the rear end kicks out in the sand.

I've noticed more and more people grabbing the handheld HAM/2 Band radios, I think it's ease of use and no setup. They do work better than the CB and sound cleaner too, especially if you have the mic attachment for it. Plus you have more channel options to get away from the chatter.
Id say yes only because I wish I had them last time out.
I came over the top of a steep incline on a trail and there was a random bush I ran over while trying to maneuver. It dented in the passenger side running board to the point where 2 200+lbs dudes couldnt stand on it and get it straight again.
Ill be buying some.
you think this trail would need it? sliders would not come fast enough anyway, and i would need to do more research. i do not want to come back home with broken parts if i can prevent it. pinstripes i can live with, nothing a good buff cant get out. and which sliders do you have? i guess im seeing there is two version? weld on and bolt on...

Naw, you'll be fine since you aren't planning on taking any of the hard lines. Seriously man, don't even sweat this trip, it's a very simple fire road.

If you stay on main trail I kept my station wagon in 2wd the whole time.
Just a fire road ,you will have fun.

Quite saying how simple it is and a civic could do it, it's very non-motivational for me, makes it sound lame and takes the excitement away,
which will have me on 2N17X breaking shit which I can't afford to do dammit and with my luck the section where your tire needs to hang along the sidewall mine will slip out like [MENTION=87168]Crazy[/MENTION]norwegian and hit the trail wall, it's the one spot a slider will save body damage. I would be seriously pissed at body damage and plus my chick is gonna be in the rig, so I can't even bullshit a "what happened"? answer or fix it before she notices, she will be in arms reach, not good.

Well, with 20+ trucks, I almost want to split into two staggered groups. 15-20 mins apart. I do want this to be enjoyable and not a huge accordion effect. What do you guys think?

I can agree with that. Its going to make passing oncoming vehicles much easier and safer. Plus, I don't think anyone is going to want to run 1/4 mile back to their truck after spotting someone. Their should be at least 1 ham in each group so we can communicate between the groups.

Good idea but I think it should be a game day decision.
First see how many actually show up.
Second see who plans on running the dirt highway vs. the wagon trails.
If split into groups one of the locals should have a few roundup spots along the way to mingle and take group photos with all the vehicles.
This should be an awesome run and I am so looking forward to it.

That's just the main road, you'll have the Cleghorn off shoots to play on.
I'd say it probably needs to be split into hard group and easy group for Cleghorn. When we had 24 or 25 rigs there for the Tacoma world meet in January, people were getting pissed because they got stuck either behind us, or ended up in the middle of us. Eventually the 2wd group headed to the end while the 4wd and the few brave 2wd stayed and did the off shoots.

Well your first mistake is having a friend like Spenny, your second mistake is telling us that...cause you just screwed yourself from going. Cause dealing with him is painful enough. I didn't think someone could hangout with him long enough to consider him a friend. Go figure.

Completely agree... And this becomes more feasible and smoother going with more people having comms so everyone knows what's going on and each small group of rigs can keep in touch being 20 min spreads of ..what 4 groups of 5 being 20 rigs as of now. I would put someone with heavy hitter comms in the first group and another with the last group. If not whatever the last group can't hear from the first group they could always find out what they said from the middle group by passing along the info.
