ARB air locker issues!? anyone?

the great him

So yesterday I had a interesting occurrence with my ARB, I was making a right hand turn off or an off ramp, and onto a fairly busy street. Well the way the intersection is you cant really see if cars are coming till you are halfways out into the intersection and yeah... (the speed limit on the street I was turinig on to is 40 or 45mph so the cars a moving) anyhow as pulled out I was looking and saw several cars (not small cars either) coming my direction so I got on the throttle only to have the right rear break lose and spin(only about 2/3 throttle and maybe 2-2500rpm). I hit my locker and bam magic, I had instant traction to put the power to the ground and I avoided being T-boned or causing a pileup behind me.

All was great and good untill about a half mile down the road when I went to unlock the locker, flipped the switch and heard the air dump and normally that is it and all is good. But the next time I went to make another 90* turn I felt binding like I was still locked this was after both coasting and making several stop and goes at other intersections, so the diff/locker should of had time to "unload" and release. I thought this was odd but sense the roads were wet I wasnt overly concerned especially sense I was only like 3 blocks from my destination and thanksgiving dinner. When i pulled into my familys driveway I stopped short and put the truck into netrual to and let it roll back a few feet to relieve any remaining pressure/tension on the diff/locker, then put it in reverse and gently backed up. I figured it had to be unlocked now and drove straight up to their house and parked. after about 4 hours of eating and visiting I went out and got into my truck and went to drive home. As I backed down the drive way and turned around i felt the same binding.

I drove the long way through the neighborhood trying to make as many turns as i could to free the diff, I even stopped shifted into reverse and nailled it trying to put pressure on the other side of the teeth to get things lose... power breaking both in first and reverse, relocking and unlocking(both under power and idle as well as rolling in neutral), going over bumps curbs, anything I could think of... I was almost at my whitts end when I found and open church parking lot and made a series of figure 8s and finally it unlocked itself, but with kind of a thud and clunk as i straightened out, something that has never happened to me before(I have had several ARBs in various vehicles and never once experienced that second thud/clunk before let alone this entire issue). so after the weird clunk I made several more figure 8s both forwards and reverse and everything was free and working as it should or so I though. I came to a stop and once again engaged the locker and went to take off again, it locked right back up as it should, but when I unlocked it(heard the air dump again I was right back to where I started, it was still locked up. I was and still am perplexed, I have never heard of this sort of thing happening and will be calling ARB on monday. to see their thoughts on this.

any thoughts on this or what might be going on here?

sorry for the novel but the more info i put out about the situation and other variables/factors the better informed you guys are as to what might be the cause.

By any chance did the airline come undone and rest against the exhaust and melt shut therefor the air can't be released?

are you poking fun at me!? lol

i had this happen when i installed the locker(the truck was on a 2 post lift in my father inlaws shop/garage), my compressor is tucked up where my spare used to be. and when i ran my air line i ran slack(forgetting the axle was already at full drop) for the air line. well when i hooked it all up everything wroked great on the lift. so when i put it back on the ground i didnt think id need to re check things again. well my "extra" slack put my air line right up against the exhaust and yeup melted it... well i learned my lesson from that and rerouted, zip-tied, and sheathed my air line to prevent this from ever happening again...

so in short nope that is not the case here(yes i also visually double checked it too)

No I am not poking fun at you!
Actually I had mine all zip-tied out of the way and safe. The zip-ties broke and sure enough the airline flopped against the tailpipe and turned into a molten mess.

i feel your pain, been there done that. yeah i made sure to loop the air line around the brake like so as to prevent it from ever being able to come incontact with the exhaust after my mishap.

i was thinking more about this today, and wondered if this might have anything to do with it... i have a leaking seal housing, and i knew this when i put it in but didnt want to have to wait for a new one and so i just tossed it in. im wondering if somehow some gear oil got into the air passages and is not allowing the locker to unlock as air will compress and fluid will not... any thoughts!?
