ARB twin compressor and lockers install

Has anyone installed an ARB twin compressor and lockers on their 4th gen??
Where/How did you mount yours?

Id like to mount it in my rear cargo area on the passenger side because Id like to keep it in a cleaner environment and leave the usual spot (behind the intake in the engine bay) open for my dual battery set up.

Either way Im going to have to fab a bracket and both locations have very different routes to run the airline. Was hoping someone had some experience to help or steer me one way or another??

Does anyone know if the 5th gen bracket is compatible with the 4th gen?

I had the twin compressor and ultimately sold it for CO2. I'd think that anywhere inside the cab will be really loud. Opted not to install in the engine bay, sine the only available spot would keep from adding dual battery down the line; although if you don't plan on that then rear passenger in the engine bay would be a good spot. You'll need to fab a bracket though.

Also you'll want the manifold to run your lockers and aux air.

Besides noise, you'll need to run some pretty stout wire and consider heat generated vs. what it is mounted to

Mine ended up in my engine bay between the firewall and intake. Had to fab a bracket.
 
Locating it on the passenger side next to the firewall, hows you run the wires for power and switch in the cab? Did you have to add wires to extend?

You'll have to extend all your wiring into the cab for switches as I don't believe the harness is long enough to reach.

That being said, I have a single in the cargo area with front and rear lockers, but I also have a fuse block run by 1/0 gauge that it's hooked up to as well back there. It's only loud when you're airing up because it runs constantly, but for the lockers it's only a blip or two here and there.

Great thanks! What wires did you use specifically to extend the compressor harness?
Depends whether you're running the arb switches or a switch panel. I'm running a switch pro so I only ran the "on" wire from each harness (compressor and each locker) to the switch pro trigger wires. Otherwise you'll have to extend each wire to each switch.

For lockers, I would buy their compact (smallest) dedicated air compressor designed for lockers.

You would have a lot more mounting locations, along with lower power requirements, and the benefit of an isolated system for the lockers.

At least that how I would do it for myself...

Personally I would use the twin for tire air only, and or keep using CO2.
 
Gotcha. I’m using the twin arb compressor for tire filling only. I will not be using the air locker feature. I’ll be using the supplied arb switch. I’m inexperienced with electrical. So just run the “on” wire into cab to the switch and the power extends to battery/ground?

I am sure the wiring diagram from ARB is well documented, I would follow that verbatim.

The switch should only be used to control a relay which does all of the heavy lifting for the power needed to drive the compressor.

You would need a minimum of 2 wires to the switch for operation, one to carry the "on" signal, and one to ground to complete the circuit.

The power to the compressor should come from the relay, with a direct ground to chassis or negative from the compressor.
 
If all you are using the compressor for is filling tires, air tools, etc., the switch doesn't need to be in the cabin; it can be under the hood by the compressor. After all, you'll need to raise the hood anyway to connect your air hose, and to provide better cooling to the compressor while it's running. Just as well make a cleaner, simpler installation by putting the switch next to the compressor.

That is, unless you plan to implement a Hummer style system where you can inflate/deflate your tires on the go. :-)

This is true too. I kept the switch for air in the cargo area next to my single until I added lockers then I extended everything up to the front.
 
Having a switch under the hood would absolutely simplify the wiring run... makes a lot of sense if you air connection is under there too.

Alternately, nothing stops you from having both. One under the hood and one in the cab.

If you have a tank, chances are there will be times you want to fill it while driving. If not, little benefit to an inside switch.
