ARB Twin Compressor Location

So why does everyone w a 4Runner mount the compressor under the hood where a compressor would be exposed to water, dirt, dust and heat/cold? Jeep guys seem to install theirs inside the cab of their 4x4.

I get thatall these manufacturers make under the hood mounts but wouldnt inside the cab be better?

Jeeps don’t have as much space under the hood as 4runners. I’ve had a compressor mounted in the engine bay for 5 plus years and no problems. It takes up useless space I wouldn’t utilize otherwise

This will require seat jackers (extra $100) plus you need to route all the wiring to the battery, plus need to jeep the door open for the air hose.

I prefer the under the hood mount.

I used this to put it on the driver's side. It works incredibly well. No problems with weather.

Then I put a Switch Pros there so I used this to mount it on the passenger side. Again, no problems.

There also a guy that sells a "Bandi mount" for the passenger side. His stuff looks really good. I didn't pursue that because it requires relocating other stuff in the engine, and I didn't want to do that.

Because we value our hearing. Even in the engine bay, they're loud AF. there is mod to mount an arb dual under the passenger rear wheel well interior trim, but it would have driven my dog nuts.

I have mine under the hood as well. 4 years and no issues.

1. If it gets submerged, the compressor is the least of my problem. The compressor has done well being resistant to the moisture and dust.

2. Better air flow = better cooling. These things get hot after after several minutes. Radiator fan pushes air through the engine bay and does a great job of keeping it cool.

3. At 50 amps or more, I prefer shorter cable run to the battery.

4. Noise. My passengers (the kids) would be annoyed if this was running inside.

It works fine under the hood and is a pretty simple install. Put mine under the hood in the back passenger side. Really happy with it.

I used this same rago mount but drilled custom holes to fit a single ARB compressor, auxiliary fuse box and bussman breaker. I didn't want to put the compressor on the passenger side in case I ever wanted to put a dual battery setup in.

I only have the single instead of the twin, but I have mine under the hood on the drivers side mounted to a PowerTrays mount with a Cooper Bussman for managing my fuses, relays, etc. I like it under the hood for some of the reasons others have stated already, noise reduction, shorter cable to battery, etc. I preferred the driver side so I can leave the passenger side open for a second battery.

I was able to mount a Smittybilt 2781 under the hood on the back drivers side and still I’m able to get to the fuses. I’ll try a add pictures later.

IF my ARB Twin will ever come in (Dang supply chain issues/shortage [emoji2959]) the plan is to use my purchased “Bandi” Mount on the passenger side under the hood. Plenty of info on the Bandi thread… and no need to move anything.

Edit 11/13- “Moving” the wiring harnesses was MINIMAL. Take time to undo clip in fender, gentle move wires/clip and zip tie it on the Bandi. Firewall bracket for other harmed can be bent away from his mount and reused with his mount stacked on each other.

Mounting it under the hood, drivers side above the wheel well isn’t going to expose the compressor to much of the elements. It allows for air lines etc. to be ran without drilling through the cab. Air compressors are pretty robust, mounting position is pretty high and out of the way from dirt and grime.

Huh. The Bandi himself told me his current design requires "the rear firewall mount requires the relocation of the engine harness" as well as removal of the plastic clip carrying some wires on the passenger fender liner. He said he can fab up something different that doesn't require the relocation, but it is an extra charge.

People love his stuff tho - I hear it's super solid.

OK I stand corrected!

Thank you for pointing that out as I have all the parts except for the ARB… So I have yet to even consider installing anything yet.

And…yes you do have to move the wiring harness. I had half a cup of coffee before my unawake/uneducated response [emoji849].

Still looks pretty simple… but, famous last words.

I used a 4x4 labs bracket on the passenger rear and after two (2) years it cracked out the inner fender. Looking for a different solution.

Wow. That's a bummer. That's the second one I've heard on the 4x4.

I bought a Bandi mount last year. Turns out he was super local to me, so I just swung by his place and picked it up.

Little install tip: Take the 5 mins and remove the airbox. It makes install and adjustment much easier, especially if you are putting a tank under there.

I JUST finished the install… and wished I’d seen this post! It’s a great mount but a little bit of a pita installing it solo… with the air box in the way[emoji2357]

And I was able to pull the OEM wiring brackets off and reuse them without breaking stuff[emoji51].
