are all aux cables the same?

Hey guys... I have a little problem and im stumped. I currently have the Pioneer Premier DEH 5901b head-unit which comes with an ipod adapter yadda yadda.

It works great with my older ipod but of course in order for Apple to make more money they changed the pins in the newer generation iPods, so it will play but it wont charge my newer iPod which has more giggas

Anyway here is my problem. I want to use the AUX out feature on my deck (which it has) so i bought some Belkin 2.1m with the 3.5 m headphone jack to plug in to my ipod. ( i did this so i can have control of what i listen to through my ipod) Anyway i plugged it in to the designated area in the back of the deck and get nothing. is there a special AUX cable i need to get this to work? Thanks guys

BTW im looking for something i can buy in a store, ive got a good trip coming up on Tuesday and im hoping i can get it before then

i remember my old head unit had the setting to turn aux on and off not sure if yours does. a regular 3.5 mm jack on both ends should work fine. you might not be able to have both the ipod and aux hooked up at the same time and if theres multiple 3.5 inputs try both and make sure your ipods volume is turned all the way ,up sometimes the head unit wont turn the volume up enough to hear it at first. hope this helps

No special AUX cable, and Apple has never changed the pins (aside from the plug on the ipod shuffle).

as far as the AUX settings, check out pages 26-29 in the owners manual. At a quick glance they should be able to help by changing some settings

X3 on the AUX settings in the deck menu, it's likely disabled. If that doesn't work for you, and you end up replacing the deck, make sure you get one with an USB input, as that does support charging as well. I prefer the rear USB on my DEH-P700BTas opposed to the front many of the new decks seem to have.

On that topic, some cheap USB-iphone cables don't support charging, so watch out for that.

They build good cables that you can used with your IPOD and almost any other equipment. There is other website like AUDIO ADVISOR, MUSIC DIRECT which sale Home audio equipment and also carry some really good cables, but with a higher price.

thanks guys, I didn't even see i had any reply's on this yeah this deck has a AUX selection in the menu, I'm thinking that the normal AUX cable's pins are just too short. I've seen some different things and options i can use, I may try those.

Djrashonal, maybe i just have a really old iPod, but my 8gig nano charges and works with the connector in my truck, (bought about 5 years ago) My 3rd gen iPod touch will play occasionally on it but it wont charge, it wont charge on my docking station either. it pops up a message saying that this device is not supported by the connection. They are the legitimate iPod connectors too.

Iv'e read that they changed the pins, and I found that they sell a conversion device for it

anyway thanks, The back of the head-unit has 8 different connections on it. there are 6 white and red ones which i think are for speakers and subs cause it didn't work when i tried those. The other 2 are not colored, but have (AUX) written under it. I think i'm gonna try one of these 2 prong airplane conversion things than run a 3"5 aux cable out of that.
