Are my headlights too bright?

This looks like it’s happening because I cut the DRL wire under dash. I’m gonna reconnect and see what happens.

You're probably right. Pretty sure the DRL uses the high beam element at a reduced voltage... I would think having it CONNECTED would make your high beams always on.
But since he offers harnesses specifically for DRL rigs- if he doesn't instruct you to cut the DRL wire- it's probably built to work with the wire still connected.

Yes, the DRL signal will insert a resistor into the ground leg of the headlight circuit. I don't know whether DRL uses the the high-beam filament or not but IF it were up to me, YES, DRL should use the high-beam filament because:
1) High-beam aim would make it more visible, AND
2) We'd want less wear on the low-beam filament.

Awesome. Yes, that's the electrically-ideal setup for halogens!
Aimed for better visibility, no power wasted on the resistor, high-beam filaments use only half the current, and low-beam filament used only for headlight function, so theoretically low-beam and high-beam life would be more equalized.

I was looking into doing a mod to do that (how cool would that be!), but with the advent of LED headlights and auxiliary lights, and the additional complexity of wiring to put the bulbs in series, I figured, i might as well just install separate LED DRL's. So what would have been a fun project was canceled - LOL!

Turns out my headlight plug was wired wrong . I fixed it and headlights work fine.

Fogs are out for harness??

Nice the OP found the fix.

I checked this out after installing high watt bulbs (with no improvement). Seems very valid with voltage drop across a long ground path etc.

I have a '99 with factory fog lamps. The link to the CO builders site states "NOT for DRL or factory fog lamps". Wonder why the harness wouldn't work as the fogs appear to run through a different switch and relay? Therefore an isolated circuit. Any ideas?
