Are these rotors and shoe pads gone? Car on Jack now, advise desperately needed

Hi everyone,

I currently have my car on jackstands now, I found one of the **** of my noise issue!

the Problem Bad clips/hardware kit and poor installation of them ! Please see picture for a flush install

picture one shows it flush to the caliper, picture 1 shows it bulging out touching the rotor every so often.

this caused a noticeable groove in the rotor. Is this a problem!? or do I need new ones? it as a slight depth to it. noticeable to touch doesn't seem like the rotors have been resurfaced yet

Another thing, it seems the parking shoes may have caused damage in the inside drum.

please see picture 4. by my finger nail is there suppose to be a groove there? going around the whole rotor, maybe 1/2 mm thinkness? or does this not matter?

Does this hair line fracture in the pads seem to a problem?? there definitely seems like there is a lot of material left on the pad. I just hope the pads dont need to be replaced!

I got this on jackstands now, Im hoping someone else will come home so I can drive to napa or advance auto to pick up some parts. toyota seems like they will be closed before i can get there.

what do the pads look like?

the shoes are fine, they're for the park brake, and should only be used when stopped anyway.

to FIX the problem, you will need to resurface, or replace the rotor, and pads. but, without seeing the pads, its hard to say if that is really necessary. if they are still thick enough, I would just run them.

Pads are new actually... we just replaced them, we noticed the brake squeal. our mechanic was busy on saturday, so we just decided to check it our self. the guy didn't put on the retaining clips on correctly. Need new retaining clips, I don't think the surface will accept them because the caliper is so rusted up. I'm more worried about the inside of the rotors surface, parking brake might have been engaged for a while.

I bet the rear brakes weren't even working correctly, because it was so snug in there might have siezed up. I want my money back from this guy, cant even do a parking brake job.

those rotors really should have been resurfaced when putting the new pads on.

clean up the rust with a wire brush, put a LIGHT coating of grease under the clips. as long as it stops well, and doesn't pulsate or make any noise, you should be fine running your pads on those rotors.


the park brake looks fine to me.

Gotta go pick up the new clips, and fix the parking shoe, so it engages correctly... but its good to know I dont need to replace other things. making the job cheaper and cheaper. Thanks!

I don't know of any shops that resurface rotors around me. the guys at the shop i was at doesn't do them. I think most places just want you to buy new ones, easy money. Doesn't seem like these rotors have been resurfaced yet, should have measured the thickness though.

is it normal to have the drop in thickness where my finger is pointing to on the inside of the rotor (4th pic). looks like the parking brake was engaged, but if that was the case id assume my shoe pads would be gone.
