Are “Toyota” reman cv axles different from the original?

Has anyone bought a Toyota reman cv axle part number 43430-35030-84? Does it look anything like the original? I have a shop that installed and charged me (that part number is on the invoice, but without the dashes) for one and it looks nothing like the OEM. After 2500 miles the outer boot is starting to rip by the clamp and the inner body of the axle just doesn’t look as robust or beefy comparing it to the driver side that hasn’t been replaced.

It’s back in the shop (not a dealership) under warranty and I asked for them to order the reman Toyota axle this time, but they insist that was a reman even tho it’s not as robust as the original one. I don’t have any pictures being it’s still in the shop.

I never followed through ordering Toyota oem reman'ed axles through Toyota when I was in the market for oem cv axles.
But the Toyota parts counter guy did say the parts guys need to look at the returning core to confirm it is a Toyota oem cv axle. This is to protect Toyota's core pile from undesirable axles and to avoid kick back from the rebuilder for a non oem core.

He also said that customers thought they has an old oem cv, only for the core to get rejected when try try to return it.

So, I would say, if your ordering a Toyota rebuilt cv axle, that is what your going to get.

This is part of the core return criteria:
"The part being returned is a factory part. Any part that is not an original OEM part that was fitted to the same vehicle that the original part was ordered for will not qualify for core refund".

I've def seen far weaker (looking?) aftermarket axles. And sometimes low quality Chinese rubber seals do seem to crack and rip in a silly short amount of time. Even with some sort of warranty, who wants the hassle to pulling and replacing them again so soon?

When the boots went bad on my original CV's, I just got another set of OEM boots and redid them. It's a messy job, but pretty cheap to do, and the boots should be good for a long time again.

Toyota is pretty serious about guarding / maintaining their reputation for quality parts. This is especially true now that seriously inferior quality parts are available everywhere for far less than OEM prices. A true Toyota remanufactured parts starts with a Toyota core - not an inferior aftermarket one. That's one of the reasons they cost more.

If you want my opinion, your repair shop charged you for OEM parts and installed whatever cheap Chinese knock off they could get from the local parts store. I'd recommend a trip to your local Toyota Parts counter for a serious conversation before threatening your repair shop with legal action for misrepresentation.

This is exactly what I was thinking, but they probably toss my old OEM when they installed a Napa or some aftermarket.

Which makes me believe they actually did order it from Toyota. When they first did the axle and other work, they had it done in one day.

Ok I can agree on this with most oem Toyota parts, but there Denso Chinese radiators are down in quality compared to the original.

I used to work in a Toyota dealership Parts department. One of the nice things about Toyota OEM parts is that we could get literally anything that we didn't have in stock in 24 hours. COVID has played hell with that, but a couple of days sounds pretty normal to me.

I replaced* both fronts with what are supposed to be OEM ReMans. Mine (done a few months apart) came with mylar silver 'Toyota' stickers on them - just curious of the OPs did as well?

*I had a local non-factory shop I trust do the order/install. They are a Toyota-only shop that insists on using OEM parts. They will install parts you bring - but no warranty in that case.

Yes they were silver! But rusted fairly fast from just rain water. What color are the boots? If it’s no trouble, would you be able to take a photo of the inner body and boot of the cv axle? I’d just like to see how big that section is and if it looks like the true OEM. If the cv axles inner bodies are flush with the boot, they are not the originals. If the body is bigger then the boot, then I’m assuming they are remans of the originals.

Yeah - mine is slitting in the lot here at work. I'll pop out there in a bit and take a couple pics. Boots are black. Even Toyota may have run out of cores and is contracting them out.....

From what I have seen coming out of Toyota is they paint the bare steel oem parts.
It's true in their cv shafts and joints, lbj's, brake calipers, etc.

Toyota also puts a sicker on the skinny part of the axle shafts on their new axles before. I would think Toyota also does that for their re mans too.
But, I cannot confirm that if Toyota does.

I'm not sure what a "dealer remanufactured" axle is since dealerships do not do remanufacturing. I'm guessing that if you don't specify "Toyota remanufactured," you may get aftermarket and that's what Cardone is. Remember, lots of folks assume that all aftermarket parts are exactly the same quality as OEM - and we all know that's not even remotely true.

There’s a Toyota dealer that has one in stock near me I’d really like to check out. But those parts guys have the same attitude as vinyl record stores. I can imagine they’ll be super annoyed.

That's sad the part guys have to spend 8+ hrs with that attitude. It must be really tiring to keep that sour attitude up. Part of the reason why they have a sour attitude is because mgmt puts up with it.

If magmt actually listens to the customer experience and talking to the parts counter guys, mgmt would put a stop to it.

I always walk in the stealerships with part numbers and it still seems like I'm bothering them.

Anyway, can you snap a pick of the re built shaft and post it on here?

I don't understand why all (beyond toyota) dealership parts employees have such bad attitudes. My guess is they were shitty mechanics and just got demoted to a parts guy. The local Napa people might not know much, but at least they're friendly.

I'll take a photo once I get my rig back. And when Endlessblockades can upload his it will be nice to compare.
