Argh...I found a really tiny paint ding on my new baby

So I was cleaning my new 2006 SE and I found a nice paint ding on my front bumper near the front liscence plate.

It would seem a tiny tiny rock may have jumped up and hit the bumper.

Now we are talking less than the size of a sunflower seend...not the actualy shell of a sunflower seed but the seed itself, the one you eat.

What bugs me is that it appears to have some depth to it, especially when looking at a certain angle.

It also catches some sking on my finger...I can even feel it on my finger nail.

Its kind of an eye sore given its the only ding or mark on my clean clean brand new bumper.

I tried some polish, wash...cleaner....caly bar...NOTHING!

So i'm thinking 2 things...

I've heard some amazing stories with ScratchX....should I venture that way? Will Scratch X do the trick for me?

or even touchup paint...what bugs me about that is touch up pain tends to stand out...especially given that touch up paint is 100% the same color tone as the stock factory paint.

BTW, I have titanium silver.

what do you suggest?


this makes me want to get a clear bra even more, but I see so many people say NOT to.

Take it to a professional, have it touched up, and then get the clear bra. Sit back and relax knowing your paint is perfect again and is protected. (This is what I would have to do.)


Or... Just get over it, and get used to it happening again.

BTW, Scratch-X ain't gonna help.

yeah, its gonna happen. its hard getting used to..

i got a couple rock chips on my new car and i've only had it for about 2.5 weeks. great thing when you take a road trip. oh and then the chrome trim around the window on the door. definitely doesn't mix with a metal camera falling out of the case. small ding there. i consider it lucky though that it didn't ding the paint. oh well..

Get used to it. Unless you cover your whole vehicle with clear bra it is gonna get chips, dings and scratches.

Oh good lord. Cars get rock chips... it's a fact of life. If I fretted over every new chip I'd end up having a stroke! I just touch them up every couple months with paint and forget about them.

And since we're speaking of car obsession and because you're from San Francisco you'll appreciate this...

I once saw (at Fillmore & California) a guy with a new Honda get out of his car, open his trunk, and pull out a one of these bright yellow "pool noodles"...

I thought this was strange, but I guess I've seen stranger things on the streets of San Francisco (!), so I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

My graciousness, however, ran out -- when I saw him string a red rope through the middle of the noodle and attach it to the Honda with enough slack for it to dangle lengthwise across the entire width of the back bumper.

He put his money in the meter and walked away, as if dozens of people hadn't just witnessed the weirdest thing they had ever seen!

Only in San Francisco, I guess.

OK, that's taking things to the extreme!

I am certainly tempted to get a bull-bar on the front and a bumper protector for the back, but that would add way too much length to an already long car, ruling out yet more SF parking spots.

Maybe I'll give the noodle a go instead. I woner if they make them in Galactic Gray??!
