Armor or Tires

I will start wheeling my 4runner this coming winterbreak. I want to keep my 4runner in the best shape as possible, i realize things will get broken and dented but anyways, I currently have a big 3inch lift and small tires (265/70/16) but i cant really afford new tires or wheels at the moment. Would it be more wise for me to invest in skid plates and sliders before tires. I understand according to most members my 4runner will already be fairly capable as is with lift and me having and elocker already in place? Thanks

fyi i already have steel front and rear bumpers

May not even have enough money for all the skids, if that is the case what are the big priorities as far as protection? Sliders, belly, front, gas tank?

Oil pan, transfer case , transmission, and gas tank. Sliders more protect the sides of the vehicle

What kind of tires do you have now? Are you just wanting new tires for increased size or is it nearly time for new tires? This is actually a pretty big dilemma you have. Since you have a lift and lockers you're more likely to get yourself into a situation that proves the need for armor, and bigger aggressive tires could prove that even more so. Personally, I think its hard to beat great tires, especially the biggest ones you can stuff. I say tires, and be careful, then armor where you find you need it most.

i wheeled in moab last year with a 2.5" front lift, tube bumper, 265/75/16 BFG A/T's, stock rear locker, no sliders/skids, stock rear suspension.

the trail i did was a 7 out of 10 difficulty (Kane creek trail) and all i got was a dent/scratch underneath a taillight.

you should be fine wheeling the way you are now as long as you can drive relatively well and have a good spotter
