Armrest Mod

I have been searching on ebay.com so watch out I will have this done to my 4runner once I find the tan color ;)

Very nice mod A++ :naughty:

The tan colored ones are pretty hard to come buy. Just make sure they have it listed as tan, because I have seen gray ones that resemble the tan ones due to the light when the picture was taken. If you get one before me, be sure to post a pic.
Here is a pic of a tan one

Since the Passport is really a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo you might be able to find more parts by looking for Isuzu's. They might even have different colors.

I just bought a grey one off ebay but now thinking it might look funny considering i have cloth seats.

Maybe i need to get leather seats now to match?

Could always go to a fabric store and get a piece of gray cloth to wrap it in.

Talk about fugly. I think it will look fine considering the current one is a smooth slick look. We'll see, if it looks stupid ill just sell it on here to someone else who wants it

I like it I'll ditch my second compartment in a heart beat to have the rest up where it should be and wider no more fighting with wife over the arm rest I'm in let the hunt for another tan rest begin of coarse color not important if we all just wrap them in camo. :spider:

Can I have someone's stock tan leather armrest when you remove it for this mod? Mine was completely shot and I just recovered it with black vinyl.....it actually looks pretty good but I'd rather have the oem leather..

thanks

BGMac, awesome post, brother. I'm on my 2nd 3rd gen T4R, and I've always thought about doing a tacky mod of simply recovering it, but seeing as how I'm not good with reupholstering, I never got to it. But I just read your posting and just went on Ebay, and guess what?? Found a tan leather armrest from a 00 Passport. It was only $19, so I got it and will post some pics as soon as I get it installed.

Again, great idea that many of us have always considered but never acted upon! Be back soon.........:lmao:

Ok, just got my tan leather armrest and immediately installed this evening- couldn't be happier! The brand new leather will blend better once its got some age and use to it, as well as some leather conditioner. There was a prior message regarding the rubbing of the seats and obstructing the seat belt receiver. I tried to include a close up but I think the angles are off. To clarify and confirm, there is NO RUBBING against the seat. There is a good pic showing that there is plenty of room for the seat belt and the receiver.

Again- great post- great idea-- great result!!

I was wondering if anyone could let me know how to remove the armrest to install the new one... I just purchased one off the Bay and am waiting for it, but am curious, how to go about removing the existing one to switch the mounting plates..

Are you still able to use the upper compartment in the armrest?

i know this is old but didnt see it ever answered. I took a chance and pulled the trigger for one off ebay, (Isuzu Rodeo btw) Couldnt be happier and i WAS able to keep the use of the top compartment from my 00 runner. I positioned mine a little different from the pics, it sits more level when closed and the reveal on the backside is much smaller/stock looking.

Note, i found one of the stock screws too short so i just used a wood screw into the backer next to the blind nut to get me by until i can find the right size/thread screw. other then that i added 2 drywall screws to firm it up, works like a champ as inside of isuzu/honda armrest is just particle board. just need to find black replacement screws and im good to go.

and to those concerned about looking "tacky" or out of place, i totally disagree. i think it looks perfectly matched (my opinion) and the added comfort is remarkable.

now lets see if i can post some pics...
