Armrest Mod

hey criera, that looks awesome. btw what year rodeo armrest is this from? fits perfectly

thanks for the props. Im new to the community as well as the world of 4runner fanaticism (i got it real bad), these are my first compliments, kind of a big deal for me, lol.

the year is 98-02 for the rodeo which i think i read earlier is a just a re-badged passport. in fact they're listed on ebay as fitting both. Good cuz i didnt see any for the passports but did find a few for the rodeos.

I think its identical to the ones shown in earlier pics except i installed mine 180 degrees from theirs. Pics dont really show it but its actually a little bit asymmetrical in shape, so when its opened the wider end is actually on top where the space between the seats is also a little bit wider. Vice Verse for the lower part, smaller and space between the seats thinner. Didnt even think about it at first, i just installed it the same orientation as it was in the rodeo, I could tell by the plastic insert i had to remove to put the runner insert in. In hindsight i wouldnt have changed a thing BUT it would have been nice to know i had options.

I could see how intuitively one would want to put the thinner/tapered part facing forward but i think it works better this direction.

Big thanks to BGMAC for posting this originally and doing all the homework. I really appreciate that Im able to benefit from others' solutions to problems that i didnt even know i had. I love this place!

Just did this mod as well on my 99 LTD with a brand new Passport armrest in tan...

Wow what a difference... wife and I both love the mod...

Some things to note, you'll have to purchase 2 new screws as the ones provided with the new armrest are too short. think I used 2" ones and they screw right into the factory holes on the armrest. You'll have to drill 2 holes to accommodate where the factory holes are in the armrest into the plastic of the tray... Looks great, OEM like and a definite improvement... BTW, you can use both compartments no problems...

I just ran into this tread and it is a great idea. My armrest in my 99 has a rip in it and I've wanted to replace it because of that. I also noticed when me any a friend are ridding in the truck we have a problem with our arms on the rest because it was way to small for both us. Now I can replace the ripped cover, get more room for 2 arms, and have the extra padding as a bonus. Win-win-win.

I see there is one on ebay for $26. Hope I get it! post photos later if I do.
