It seems to me that everyone involved got their due.

The dealership employees were arrested for accessory to commit fraud. The illegal immigrants lost their money and cars & should be arrested for committing fraud and driving without a license.

I would not be nervous about the quality of the vehicle you purchased at this dealership. In the end, it is still a Toyota. I would, however, refuse to do any future business with them since they support and promote illegal activity.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but I'll tell you EXACTLY what the F is wrong with this country.

The immigration process is completely, entirely, 100% BROKEN. My wife is from Vancouver, Canada. Was born in Canada, and has lived in only two cities her entire life (one of which was for the last 25 years). When she first wanted to come down here, she found an employer that would sponsor her for a work visa. We filed the appropriate paperwork, paid our thousands of dollars, and waited...and waited...and waited....and are still waiting to this day. That was 3.5 years ago. When we decided to get married, we filed for a fiancee visa and sent in MORE money to the federal government and waited... and waited.... By not having their act together along the way, different offices not transferring documents around, etc, we've had to spend hundreds of extra dollars on top of all the processing fees, had to take DAYS out of our lives waiting in lines at consulate offices and the local immigration office. Finally, a year and a half AFTER she was granted her fiancee visa and we got married, she receives her greencard.

That, I'm afraid, is why you have so many 'illegal' immigrants in this country. The immigration process itself is "F"ed up... If it was less complicated, took less time and a LOT less money, I'm sure more people would go through the proper processes to become TAX PAYING CITIZENS of this country. GOD FORBID the government might make it easier for themselves to collect more tax dollars; they just don't do it for some reason. They have all the red tape and make it take so long to do such a simple thing in an attempt to justify the thousands of unnecessary employees they have.

Sorry, just had to rant about the whole immigration process. It's been a thorn in our side for over 3.5 years now.

Well put. Politicians from both parties have f*cked up this issue for a LONG time now. I'm not a supporter of Shrub or his party by any means, but his immigration guest worker program makes sense. Shrub knows he's stuck between a rock and a hard place on this issue; clearly someone smarter than him put forth a proposal that will strenghten the borders (not just the one down south) AND keep his big business buddies happy.

People might get into a jingoistic rant about how this country is for "native born" or whatever, but if they want to pay $11 for a box of strawberrys or pay $400 for a hotel room that should cost $100, then I can't do anything more to change their minds. Illegal Immigration has been around for hundreds of years. To think we can change it in one fell swoop is unrealistic.

Yes, it is a sad state of affairs. At least these people were caught. Illegal immigration is enough of a problem without helping them to bypass the system.

RickyCRX, my brother had a similiar experience... and he served in the US millitary for 28 years before he decided to apply officially for citizenship, so I agree it is not an ideal process.

However, I am not sure we want to make immigration a cake walk either. Instead of tax paying citizens, you will have thousands of unskilled workers with no jobs on welfare instead, eating our tax dollars versus contributing to them. Of course there will be those who can pay their way, but I'll bet the worst of the flood would be the former.

I'm sorry you had to go through so much trouble, Ricky. I know it's of NO consolation to you, but I personally applaud the fact that you did abide by the system, faulty though it is. You ought to be commended for that.

The statement that absolutely kills me in the article is that these ILLEGAL immigrants will not be punished for doing something that they KNEW was ILLEGAL in the first place. That's why I quoted that line from the police captain. That's just for the act alone: nevermind that they probably won't be deported for being ILLEGAL immigrants either. They will get off scott free, I bet.... yet, if I tried the same thing, I'd be writing this post on a piece of paper in my very own 6x6 studio apartment, complete with concrete walls and nice shoebox window, if I'm lucky.

BTW, it took me about 11 years to get my US Citizenship and I was already in the country with a Resident Alien card. My parents first submitted my paper work when we got to the USA and INS felt the need to lose my paper work twice in the process costing years of waiting for nothing.

The INS' incompetency and conveniently 'losing' paperwork just burns me up. They've had the same thing happen to my wife's paperwork, causing her to have to get unnecessary medical examinations (that were already done) and cost a couple of hundred dollars. They also have failed to forward 'critical' paperwork from the regional office in Dallas to the local office in San Antonio. It's just a very messed up system. Very frustrating.

Hopefully, with any luck, my wife will be able to obtain citizenship within the next 2.5-3 years or so. And I know Canadian citizens have the EASIEST time; I can only imagine how difficult it would be if she were from Mexico.

He might be confused....but I am NOT. We can greatly reduce illegal immigration into the U.S.A. by treating and persuing those people like the coast guard does to the immigrants of Haiti who try to get to Florida.

The U.S. Coast Guard try to persuade them to turn back by shooting over the bow of thier rafts. Also, when they are capture, the treatment the Haitians get when returned to their homeland is harsh to discourage them from attempting to flee for the USA again. We reward the hispanic immigrants from Mexico by giving them jobs including decent paying construction jobs. The Mexicans are NOT the only people who would do these jobs if they were allowed into the USA.

We have got to do something about that southern border...............PERIOD! If not, then America should open its borders to people of all non-aggressive nations "regardless of color, religious beliefs, or creed! The Mexicans aren't the only people who will work for a living---others nationalities will to when/if given the same fair chance by USA employers.

For being a country founded BY immigrants, it sure makes the process difficult these days for people who WANT to come here. I think they should change the statue of liberty to flipping the bird and change the 'Give me your tired, your poor......" to "F off, no longer accepting applications."

As I said before, if the process was easier, we'd actually have more tax-paying citizens.
