Instead of gutting the stock speakers to mount the kappas I tried using the speaker adapter plates I got on amazon... terrible idea... so looks like the speaker is too deep and hitting the window or maybe the cross over connected to the speaker came lose and is interfering with the window..Or possibly my fat arm going through that tiny speaker hole to lay the sound deadening broke something or maybe the sound deadening got put where it could interfere... back to the drawing board

So lesson learned...the crossover was getting in the way of the window not the actual speaker. I wrapped the crossover in boommat and used double sided 20 pound tape to keep it attached to the inner side of the rear hatch which made it too thick....Quick fix took off the boommat and attached it above the speaker. Window works and the panel popped back on with no problem.

I hope that tape holds up to our summers....? I have a LED light mod for my whole car but I am worried that the LEDs will come ustuck when it reaches 150 degrees in my car come sumer time.

I've just gotta say Vegas, reading your mod thread and exploits remind me of a action adventure movie lol. You against the 4Runner - who is going to win? Sleepless nights, bloody knuckles, I can just imagine you staring at your truck at 3:00 am and saying "You're wearing me down but I will persevere in the end!"
Good job and way to stick with it. Next time I'm out there I will buy you a beer!

actually with a lot of my Chop Shop Mod adventures I often am curious to see what the 150 plus heat will do to it... like I come back to my car after a two hour movie midday in July and there are four little puddles of plasti-dip next to each tire...

but in this circumstance the double sided tape is just to keep the Kappa crossover in place... it is in there nice and snug between the panel... It's just me going overboard with the tape to try to ensure no vibration from the speakers... I am so surprised and amazed that I have now ripped apart my panels multiple times (usually because I don't do it right the first time) and they are like the legos you played with as a kid, they pop right back together.

Hahahaha... well I guess it's cause I am an extremely bad bad wanna be screenwriter that my posts always have lots of typos and my writing style is more like movie dialog than professional writing.

I read all your post and always appreciate your input even when it's way over my head. I'm glad you enjoy my continued battle I have with my truck... and you are right I was thinking around 3am what could I have done wrong and why did I put the panel back on before testing out the window.... if you are ever in the neighborhood I'll buy you the beer and hand you a wrench to double check some of these mods:cheers:
