I got the wiring harness that just has 4 wires. Am I correct that I only splice those to the corresponding wires coming from my New HU and disregard the other harnesses from of the 4Runner?

Sounds like that's just the power harness. Where's the harness for the speaker leads?

If you need the wiring diagram for the 4Runner bundle I have that in an email. I could probably help you out. Just beware Mine doesn't have a screen. All it ever is though is matching up the right wires.
I think I got it figured out. The harness package had two harnesses in it and I didn't notice that the second had fallen under my seat. So I only had a single harness that had 4 wires on it. I was banging my head against a wall thinking that there had to be more connections. I ran out of time before date night so I will work on it later and post an update. Hopefully with the other harness in hand it will solve my problems.
So I went ahead and spliced all the matching wires together from the wire harnesses and those coming off of the HU. Plugged them in, buttoned everything back up and the HU doesn't turn on. I'm positive I have good connections with all the wires. Does anybody have any advice or ideas about what could be causing the problem before I go ahead and I assume I got a defective HU and take it out again and return it?

Did you follow the wiring diagram? It's not usually as simple as red to red, etc.
I was originally told that it WAS that simple, so that's what I did... :frusty:
I was doing some more reading this morning and realized that it is indeed not Red-Red, yellow - yellow etc... When I am off work tomorrow I will pull it and rewire it. Fingeres crossed.
This has been a good learning experience in that I overestimated my abilities....

Yea stereos don't work the same and it always bugged me.
I had one that said take the yellow wire from car and connect to the gray wire with black stripe.
What year 4Runner and did it have the JBL from the factory? Steering wheel stereo controls involved? I just put one in and needed a factory amp interface and a steering wheel control interface in addition to the head unit. If you didn't buy a plug and play wiring harness for your aftermarket head unit to fit your specific 4Runner, then you really need the info on your factory wiring harness in order to know which wire goes where.
