Ash Tray Question

Hi Guys!

I have a 2003 4runner and it came with an ashtray insert in the center console.

Can anyone tell me what the little metal grille-looking thing in the picture is for? You can see it on the right side of the ash tray container.

Smokers will take the cigarette and tap it on something to shake off the excess ashes at the end of the cigarette and that's what the little silver part does...it allows them to tap it on that and shake the ashes into the tray.

I just bent mine back and forth and pulled it off, gets in the way of my change holder.

Yeah it's to either tap your ash on, or rest your burning cig on. I have been debating removing mine since I added this kit but don't smoke

The metal tab is to stub your smoke out on not to rub ashes off a quick flick does that...
