Ashtray Problem- It won't lock when I shut it.

Hey guys. I have a 2006 4Runner SR5 4wd. I am having a little problem getting my ashtray to shut. It usually will lock when I shut it, but now I will shut it and it will go right back. I would like to fix it myself. Is there an easy way to pop the console open or does anyone have any good tips? Thanks a ton, much appreciated.

That part of the console pops right up, just lift up the arm rest, and pry up the 2 tabs

Pops right up and you can see what's going on with the spring underneath

i had the sameproblem and found out what it was. when you get the tray out you will see on one of the ends a pin looking thing. Apparently it has a tendency to slide away from the latching mechanism. Just push it back out and that should do it.

Just wanted to come on here and thank you for the help. My ashtray storage cover had the same problem and would not stay shut. Located the pin that was slightly pushed out.... pushed it back in and all is working great now. Super helpful.
