First rule is NDA club is don't talk about NDA club.
EVERYONE is affected by CSI. Whether they get a bonus or not. Sales and Service advisors are paid monthly on CSI. everyone else earns their Christmas bonus by amassing $ over the course of the year and one check in early Dec.
Not actual numbers, but 93.0 pays $50 to everyone, 93.5 pays $100 etc. Everyone (everyone not paid monthly on csi) gets a check for 1200 to 2000ish depending on how we did for the year.
2 very different markets represented here. BlackWorksInc, do you tend to agree with what CodyY is posting?
Do you guys trust your mechanics and would you have their backs off the record?

I work on the stuff I wanna work on. Oil changes and rotation I even pay the guys to do for me.

You won't really be re gearing a diff or putting on a new head gasket all the time.
Most normal customers need oil changes, alignments, tire rotations, the "big 3" if you ask me, plus other scheduled maintenance or warranty work.

What a Mechanic will be doing, depends largely on where they work. A new car dealer will generally be doing preventive maintenance on newer vehicles.
An Independent shop will likely be doing more extensive repairs on older vehicles. Headgaskets, transmission rebuilds, wheel bearings, etc.
A performance shop will be doing more of the custom engine work, re-gearing, etc, etc.
That hasn't changed appreciably, in at least the last 30 years. In fact, I'm sure that pretty much has always been the case.

The problem is that for example his dealership does gives out bonuses for good work/CSI to all employees, our company just gives us (technicians) a straight longevity bonus every few years or so.
Different companies have different pay structures. Different dealerships also have different operating characteristics. So I don't disagree with anything Cody says (in fact I am more envious of him!).
There's a lot of differences in how dealerships are operated.

What is your favorite part/most interesting to you about auto tech in general, since you have seen a wide array of stuff?
i..e forced induction in race car tech (blower, turbo, forged engine technology, etc, cpus and tuning), off-road tech, etc?
