Asking for Magnuson SuperCharger Reviews

Guys watch out for all the extra load the supercharger makes on the engine. So much load. I’ve been told about at least 2 4Runner explodering after going WOT too much so heads up. Don’t do it. Anyone who tells you anything else doesn’t know nothin about cars.

I’m getting a pedal general and coil packs instead. My mechanic (I’ve never turned a wrench) swears by them.

You’re right these will add another 80hp.

A "pedal" controller does absolutely nothing other than changing how the throttle behaves based on user input (your foot)... Not sure what that and coil packs have to do with a SC...

They’re safer than the supercharger which makes so much load. Too much load explodes your 4Runner. This is basic stuff. You can fight it by runnin 87 octanes as this tricks the supercharger, but it’s still very dangerous.

A lot of guys may be running the magnuson setup with out issue but don’t be fooled. The load gonna get em.

The ecu reads the 87 when you wire in your raptor lights correctly and helps the load stay down under WOT. Basics.

Well this thread got weird.... why is it that alot the negativity towards superchargers comes from individuals who don't have one? Please don't give people advise if you have no experience "wrenching." Opinions are not first hand experience. It is true that WOT wide open throttle harms vehicles, supercharged or not. A vehicle should not be regularly placed up against its redline. That area of the rpm is red for a reason. A coil can provide a higher voltage spark for a more complete combustion.... allegedly. However can also cause the plug to burn hotter and lean the vehicle out causing a sweet pinging. 80hp? Nope. 87 octane? Really? I am not usually someone that fires off but sometimes it must be said I guess. Sorry for the off topic rant. I will probably be unsubing this thread but if you have any more questions feel free to dm me.

Hey I know for a fact my raptor lights will aid in funneling more air into the supercharger under load in order to balance out my A/F ratio and prevent it from exploding. “Pedal General” :thumb3:

What weight trailer are you towing?

I'm not sure of the weight of my trailer. Maybe 2-2500..... I have been meaning to get it weighed. It is actually hooked up to my 4runner now. I had my first experience towing on the freeway yesterday. I caught myself speeding twice. I live in California <55 . It kept wanting to sit in overdrive which it pretty much never did before. I went up 1 grade that I used to have to get a running start at. She stayed in 4th and cruised up the hill without downshifting and maintained 60 all the way up. Overall seemed way better.

Sorry for the necro, I was going to ask a question regarding Magnuson superchargers but I haven't posted enough replies yet.

What I take from the other posts here is that the increase in acceleration from an sc is alright and that you will need to rebuild in more or less 60k miles.

However, what I see is all feedback on the road. Does anyone have references about offroad and backcountry performance? For reference, I drive in desert and dunes at high altitude once a month.

I have a friend who runs the service mechanics for a large Chevy dealership here in Phoenix, he is an awesome mechanic himself. I have know him since he first met my younger son on their first day of kindergarten at the bus stop. He said Magnuson makes a great supercharger, loads of power, but he said 60k +- and you can expect a rebuild cost. He talked me out of a supercharger because I want reliability over performance. That and I am an old man who drives like an old man and therefore I thought I really do not need one. My 2cents for what it is worth.

Has this 60K service interval been corroborated anywhere else? It was my impression that this application has very mild boost, and emphasis on OEM longevity and driveability, rather than all-out power. I would think that a short service life is more for hot street or strip applications.

In my opinion the 60k service is incorrect, I’ve been told about every 90-100k miles.

I agree to this statement.

If you keep everything stock on the blower. Life expectancy is quite long. I do know you have to service it at like a 100k for internal oil.

Now I've had buddies with 3rd 4runners run close to 15 to 18psi of boost on their TRD Blowers. And the blower needed a rebuild after like 20 to 30k.
