Atlanta Traffic

Words cannot describe how much I hate Altanta traffic but my job has me flying in (along with 11 others) this Monday. Most of us arrive right before 5 PM and have to get up to the Perimeter area. So... I'm looking to you guys for any tips on getting up there the easiest, least-traffic-iest way possible while avoiding bad areas.

Wow, they picked the absolute WORST time for you to arrive and drive to the north side! At 5:00, the most direct route will probably also be the "quickest" (which won't be quick at all).

75/85 North to I-85 North to GA400 North. Exit at either Abernathy (exit 5) or 285 East to Ashford Dunwoody Rd, depending on where you are going near Perimeter.

At 5:00, I would guess that the drive will take you about an hour fifteen to an hour forty-five. Luckily it shouldn't be raining.

Thanks. We're headed to the Dunwoody area. Google maps estimated 30 minutes so I figured 2 hours was reasonable. lol

I still have nightmares about my last drive through Atlanta. We thought we were being smart by hitting it just after lunch and ended up stuck in accident traffic while driving the large Penske truck. 5 hours later we were finally out of the city.

if your doing it at 5pm, south going north works until you hit middle of ATL, not vice versa.

if your north going south it works until you hit mid ATL, not vice versa.


um come in at 9-10 am, 2-3 pm or after 7-8pm. all other times your screwed.

and that was in the late 80's, 90's and early 00's.

I couldn't imagine what it is now.

I would leave Columbus around 8am to hit ATL at 10am, go west in 285 until I hit I-20 west and jump off at 6 flags.

Yeah, if it was going to snow, I'd recommend just driving the rental car straight into a wall right there at the airport. Someone is going to hit you anyhow.

Not really sure how I got roped into driving... I would have just hired a driver if it was up to me.
