ATRAC kicking in after new wheels

I appreciate everyone's efforts to clarify the ATRAC functionality, but I'm still trying to get an answer to the Zero Point Calibration issue I'm having.

Is anyone familiar enough with the procedure to confirm if I'm doing something wrong?

Ok, the procedure I followed was the one he attached in the first link you provided... but he also mentioned the pins might be different for an 05+... does anyone have the correct pin information?

I did not disconnect and reconnect the battery before I did it either. I can do that, but I would really like to verify the zero point calibration procedure for the 2006 runner before I start over again.

Take it to your dealer. They will use the Toyota diagnostic scanner system, which should take less than one minute. Also, it's free.

One last question for you 4th gen owners with A_TRAC. Do you have a push button switch for A-TRAC??

Yup there is a button, I was just in my roommates 4th Gen.

no atrac button on my 06. from what ive read, the 4th gen trail edtion is different than previous years. eitherway, if you guys are correct then this post by bulldog over on 120 who seems very knowledgable is incorrect & he is wrong," The CDL button locks the center diff and turns VSC off. ATRAC is always active on the 4Runner, it does get more aggressive in 4Lo. Also if the center diff is open TQ can flow frotn to back on the axles, thus to get the best out of the ATRAC in technical terrian you need to lock the center diff. Some older Land Rover Discoveries had a traction system similar to ATRAC with no center diff lock, this made the traction control system far less useful.
The FJC (properly equipped) and the new 09 4Runner Trail Edition is fitted with a ATRAC button. This allows you to turn on ATRAC in 4Lo. No 4Hi ATRAC unless modified. The FJC/TE ATRAC system is calibrated more aggressively and is probably the reason why they fitted the button as it can likely hamper progress in some slippery conditions where some wheelspin is desirable (mud at speed, etc).
Also the AT FJC only has a part time transfer case, thus no center diff and no diff lock needed. The MT FJC has a center torsen dif like the 4Runner, but it has no button as the transfer case lever activates the center diff lock in the right selection. " in any case if he & the others are indeed wrong, maybe someone can post that on their links, or start a new post just for it & let them know so we all cant have the right answer & indeed put an end to the debate.

I'm really not trying to be rude, but read this whole discussion about ATRAC and I have to chime in.

Here the facts.

-ATRAC is ALWAYS on and can only be disabled when the "Zero Point" is erased.

-ATRAC works in 4HI and 4LO. NOT just 4Lo. I know I use it all the time including this past weekend. (This video I made demonstrating ATRAC, was taken in 4HI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLI0rtbiTEQ)

-Not sure about the 4th Gen Trail Edition, but there is NO switch for ATRAC like there is in the FJ for example.

-I have done ZERO research on the 5TH GEN, so it may indeed be different than what I said above. BUT everything I said is correct regarding 4TH GEN's.

For the OP, If you still need some help with the Zero Point shoot me a PM I do them all the time.

P.S. --- I'm going to make a video tomorrow around noon to show everyone that ATRAC does indeed work in 4HI. That's much better than arguing about it.

Well, stopped by Mountain States Toyota today, and they wanted to charge for it. Bas****s. The girl I spoke to obviously had no clue, even when I told her that I know it only required hooking up the computer and clicking through 7 menus.

Im always down to help, I would say before you hit me up, stop at a local Firestone, they can do the same thing and they are usually pretty cool about it. They've done a bunch of mine before for free.

Just talked to the Firestone place I got my tires from. They said they would do it for free. (But asked if I could do them a favor and leave the vehicle with them for a few hours rather than just showing up and expecting them to drop everything.)

In my opinion... that's a pretty fair deal.

Took the runner to firestone the other day. They determined that the alignment was just barely off and fixed it for free. They also hooked up the diagnostic computer and said they found multiple codes related to the VSC sensors.

They didn't say anything about resetting the memory on the VSC system like the toyota instructions talk about, but they did say they cleared the codes.

Either way, it appears to be fixed. The final test was one particular set of corners that I take once or twice a week. Prior to this, the VSC kicked in on the second corner EVERY time.... after their fix, it didn't kick in there again.

Was the misalignment throwing the codes? Good thing I'm getting an alignment after I install my new lca's next week! Maybe it will fix my issue.

I cant see how a misalignment would throw codes unless your alignment was beyond jacked
