Attn: Anyone running OEM Black Tokico 80 Series LC SHOCKS in the rear

just put a set of these on the wife's 2000 today. Lowes for the win with 4 washers for 30 cents each. Used the stock centering washer and all is good. I still think these shocks for all around use ride as well as the kings I have on my runner.

Slightly off topic .... I'm still running these LC shocks in the rear of my 4Runner. I've been nothing but happy with them for years now. I see no reason (for me) to upgrade to fancy more expensive aftermarket rear shocks.

Did the swap yesterday. Used 2" OD stainless fender washers rather than the pricy OEM ones. 80 bucks cdn each for the shocks and 8 bucks for the washers.

Thanks for all the info.
I just installed the LC shocks with OME 891's . Used new T4R centering washers
and the OEM washers .
The truck has Shrockworks Bumpers front and rear with tire carrier gas can etc.
Winch and full set of skids . Usually have 150 lbs. of gear on board .
Also installed Tundra 6112 coilovers .
It rides and wheels perfect , not harsh on the street at all . 22.5 "

well i ordered the shocks from my old job ill see friday how they look and if i need the mounts ill go ahead and get them coming but i hope i dont! we shall see!

Just put the OME 891s and OME 60027 shocks on my 2000 4Runner and still getting some sag with my overlanding load. So switching over to the 861s. Can I still run the 60027 shock with 861 coil?

Is an extended rear brake line needed with the 861 coil?

BFAD, I'll be interested to hear your review once/if you make the swap. I'm probably going to be in the same boat once I get a swing-out made.

FWIW "Victor" on the forum who is often seen in the Millenium Silver 3rd gen. in my wheeling pics - has the LC 9 wraps (not the 861's...), the OEM Tokico blacks, and the same CBI swing out as you. We swapped vehicles in the summer as I wanted to compare the Tokico's to my Bilsteins in the rear. Keep in mind he had a swing-out and my truck does not, obviously, so it's not apples to apples (his is heavier back there...). My initial impression was that the Tokico's were noticeably stiffer even with the CBI + swing out. But it was noticeable in a good way. I felt they were valved more appropriately for the heavier load and the ride was not unpleasant in the slightest - just stiffer than my Billy's and yet, not even CLOSE to as stiff as when I was running OME 60027's with the LC coils. A good middle ground. Not that it matters, but I would not hesitate to run that shock setup in the future, and probably will when the time comes.

For everyone that has these installed how did you get the top nut started? I'm using the 2 LC washers and the stock 4runner centering washer. With all of those I can't get the nut started. I assume I must be doing something wrong.

dont you have to drill out the frame when using these?....did you? ...if not maybe just part of the "stud" is sticking through but not a big enough hole to let the threaded part through

just a thought..

If I'm not mistaken the order is LC washer - rubber - stock washer - car - rubber - LC Washer - nut. Do you not have enough clearance to put the washer on top or is there another issue? You wont need to drill anything though (I didn't on my 2001). You will only need to drill if you use the LC centering washer, but it's no problem since you are using the stock one.

Yea that's the order I have it in. Didn't drill out the hole. There's clearance to put everything where it's supposed to be but it's not even close to being able to start the nut. I did try to jack up the axle from the center to compress the bushings. Maybe i'll try jacking it up from each side and if I can get it to compress that way.

Yup you're gonna have to compress the bushings (they squeeze a lot). You should be able to jack the rear axle just enough to get the nut started and let the wrench do the rest.

Good Luck!

FWIW, I just changed from the Tokico shocks to Fox 2.0 PN 980-24-675. I ran the Tokicos for a couple years. The Fox's are so much more forgiving on and off road. The ride on my 4runner has gotten much better since changing. I know a lot of you running Tokico's have weight in the back. I do not. For a lot of extra load I'm sure the Tokico's would handle it better than my new Fox's considering how stiff they are.

Tried jacking up one side of the axle it didn't do anything. Just starts jacking up the whole car before the bushing compresses. I'm running the DOBINSON 210V springs but people have these installed with the 861 springs and those are taller so I don't see how that could be the issue. I have to be doing something wrong. Any ideas?

I don't see what you are doing wrong. I used the 8.25 wrap LC springs on mine. Not sure how good of an idea this is but maybe you could use a spring compressor to compress your coils just enough to jack the rear axle so you get the clearance for the nut. IDK just a thought.

Yea idk what I was doing wrong either. I got it figured out though. My brother works at a 4x4 shop so he got me some thinner bushings that were just thin enough to fit on top and I could get the nut started.

Glad to here it worked out! Post up some pics...

Very useful thread here.

Just put this lift (LC coil + Tokiko black) in this weekend. Agree the top nut on the shock is a pain in the neck with those thick bushings. So far I managed the right side, but still haven't got the left side seated. Going to try again tonight.

One additional question about this lift on a 2001: What do you do with the e-brake cable? Clearly can't use the same bracket with mounting location. SS says their adaptor isn't needed for the 2001's, but what to do instead?

Yup, on my 2001 I have the same issue. Just take a piece of sheet metal and make a "bracket extender" (2 holes).

Make sense. Would like pretty much like what SS makes I supposed. Kind of confused why SS states it's not needed for an '01, but I can get over that.
