Would be nice.................. HID sticky
A few HID threads have resulted in getting downright nasty (and some members banned). A mod told us all to head to an HID forum once. Ouch. Anyway, I agree, that having an HID sticky to "end all" HID discussion would be nice. There are a lot of stickies on this forum which are excellent and informative. This would continue the informative and friendly nature of T4R.ORG. This "HID sticky" should have the following:
1) Kelvins (what do they mean, what color, how many lumens, etc)
2) Ballast (ebay kits/brand/OEM......... 35w vs. 55w)
3) PnP kits in a stock reflector light vs. projector vs. retros (this is a touchy topic, but the record should be set straight with facts and information from other creditable sites)
4) glare, light cut off
5) adjusting the headlights (light related, not necessarily to HIDs)
6) have other member threads, some have done their own installation and shared their experience and outcome. Some are "how to" threads (very cool)
7) list hardware and service providers.
8) expected costs (approximate).
9) members who have HIDs can chime in regarding their experience, what worked for them, which vendor is good, what brand sux, etc etc
10) Pics of all of the above.
11) new technology (LEDs)
keep the vendors out of it (thread should be informative and have no influence...... vendors want to sell their product which is fine, but I can't help but feel that they could be biased)
When HID threads come up, I've been ignoring them lately (and will continue to do so unless I have something to add). They are coming like oil and tire threads.

Seems like a great idea, especially if we can fill the sticky with actual FACTS, not just peoples' opinions, which they then procede to defend till death. You know who you are.
Pretty sure we have an HID sticky on NASIOC. Seriously, just copy that, it's perfect.

Very nice Cookieroe. This is an excellent base for a thread on HID lighting to be started on. Very thorough. Good job man!... If i get some time i will try to put in my knowledge of facts and opinions.

I'll take a look at it. I've seen excellent information on numerous sites. Hidplanet comes to mind. That's a good starting point. Anyway, just copying sounds like a no-no (but not if properly referenced).

Good question. I have some members names in mind. Hopefully they can contribute. Anyway, I've dealt with HID light since 2002 (I had a PnP kit on my 1997 Surf then on my 2000). After I sold my trucks and moved back to USA, I got my 2007 civic and got retros made for them. Liked them so much that I got retros for my 2005 4Runner. By NO MEANS does that make me an expert, but gathering information on the subject will be timely (getting pics/graphs/pertinent threads/etc). I can start something if no one wants to. I can post what I have done so far HERE (on this thread). I'm sure knowledgeable people can chime in and we can all participate in making a "sticky" the best we can. When its all complete, we can submit it (polished new thread) on the electronics subforum and ask to make it a sticky.

Relax, patiences is virture. :biggrin2: Its called work/having a 6 month baby at home. I have collected about 25 links of information so far. What I'm going to do is copy/paste a lot of text, provide links and most importantly, pictures. I expect to have something (draft) by this weekend. :artist2:

oem bulbs has the best output, interms of lumens and right area of hotspot, aftermarket is a ok, if you want color without spending a fortune, then aftermarket from a reliable source is kool, but if you want the most lumens and brighter bulb, oem like philips and osram(sylvania) is the best.

This is what I think of when I hear of people putting HID's in stock reflector housings.

That site's "hid sticky" is awesome, but MANY of the links are not working.
I think so too, but MAYBE in the accessories sub forum, there seems to be alot of light discussion here.

Anyway, after WAAAAY TOO LONG (sorry about that) preparing my stuff, I finally have a good draft. Let me know what you guys think. I'll be posting on the accessory thread (HID light for all 4Runners). Hey if you like it, tell a mod to make it into a sticky. I just hope no haters post, but whatever.
