audio problem new stereo

Hello all. I just installed a JVC HU into my 91 4runner. I got the wiring all correct, however, the front speakers have a very low volume now. My rear speakers are normal, it has the factory amp that runs those. I also bought new speakers, Clarion's, and put those in, and the volume is still low. I checked the ground, and made sure it was good, and still the volume is low on the front speakers. I have 1 plug that is not connected, it went into the old stereo, next to the antenna plug, there is no spot for it on the new HU. Any ideas? Thanks.

This might be dumb answer, but worth checking perhaps. Did you check to see if your balance on the head unit is correct? I once did this same thing in high school, and it turned out to be that I just had the balance on 90% back, and only 10% on the front speakers.

yep, i checked the fader level. when i put it all thru the front speakers, i can turn the volume all the way to 30, and it sounds like its on 10. I even went so far as to exchange the HU yesterday, and put in a new one, in case it was a defective unit, and still the same issue. An installer told me it was just that way, and that I needed an amp, but I find that hard to believe, as my new HU has a 20w amp in it, that should be enough to power the front speakers I would think, they are Clarion 4". Any one with other ideas? Desperate for loud volume! Thanks
