Authentic OEM Oil Filters

I’ve been buying filters for a while now and the OEM YZZA5 filters I’ve always gotten from the dealer used to have the part number printed in between the folds on the actual filter element. I just bought some off of eBay and the filters are a lot more yellow in color and don’t have the part number printed on them. They did come in genuine looking boxes. Does anyone know if they have changed/if these are authentic?

I think if you bought it on eBay and the seller is not a Toyota dealer or supplier then theré is a good chance they are fakes.
 
Maybe a yr. or so after my wife bought her 2014 4R, I bought a replacement oil filter housing. We keep our cars forever and I suspected that eventually the plastic oil filter housing would break and that is not a part a dealer is going to have readily available. It had to be special ordered, even 5 yrs. ago.

The new filter housing came with a filter already loaded. It was YELLOW - much different looking than what you get everyday at the dealer.

Lots of dealers sell on ebay. If it came from a dealer, I would not be concerned about the color of the filter.

On another Toyota forum, people worry themselves sick about the color of the engine oil pan drain plug gasket - part # 90430-12031. Some are blue; some are black. OMG!

And yes - I am aware of the metal oil filter housing replacement. I have one of those as well. It came with my 2006 Avalon, but I'd just as soon leave that one where it's been for the last 14 yrs.
 
Case of 10. Saved a few bucks but don't remember how much. Dealer used to be less than a mile, then they moved about 10 miles away out by the interstate. So I went this route. At least they're not made in China.....

Thanks for the replies and pictures. I’ve been looking at pictures of OEM filter boxes and cant come up with a verdict on whether they’re authentic or not. They don’t seem to be bad quality filters.

This thread reminds me I have to get over to the Toyota dealership and pick up a few of those $20 TRD oil filters. The ones that are “ported and polished”.
 
Don't the authentic OEM boxes have the little holographic sticker on them? Not that those couldn't be faked too but still.
 
Happened to be standing in the garage and reading this, bought some recently along with an air filter. All have that stamp on the filter media and the hologram sticker on the boxes at least from my local Canuckistan dealer. The filter housing I had to grab from my local Lexus Dealer next door which was weird but anyway, it only says Toyota on it with some other side markings there presumably to let you know when to stop tightening LoL. Hope this helps...

Did the same and parts look identical to mine. The metal oil filter housing is well worth it too for those that don’t have one.

I ordered a 5 pack of oil filter kits from Toyota of North Miami Parts on Amazon, all with the holographic stickers on the boxes, and p/n printed on the filter media identical to your pictures. Just for my own understanding, the YZZA5 p/n is for the entire kit, and the YZZA2 p/n is for the element itself?

As for the OP, that's one of the tradeoffs about Ebay vs. Amazon. I often cross shop both; Ebay usually has better prices and the sellers ship faster, but Amazon seems to have more actual dealership parts departments selling on there. If you want OEM for a specific part, go Amazon, if OEM doesn't matter, go Ebay.

Yeah I totally agree about all of your points. I’ve shopped eBay for years for OEM car, boat, and motorcycle parts for years and I’ve never had a problem with anything until now. I went back to look at the item details on the filters I ordered and under manufacture it doesn’t say Toyota. It says generic, but in the pictures they look like the OEM filter boxes with the hologram. Lesson learned on this one.
