Auto trans- what is it??

Guys I have a 92 with an auto. I'm swapping motors and eventually trans from auto to manual. I'm going to get the new motor dialed in and then swap trans. I would also like to know the trans works well so I can sell it.
Question, what is this linkage at the top side of the bell housing? I didn't disconnect anything and it does have a clip so it looks like it should connect to another link. What is it and what am I missing?

I wish I could rotate the picture for proper orientation but my PC skills suck

Does anyone know if the wire harness is different between the auto and manual for a 2nd Gen? I just pulled the pedals and it has the 2 additional switches and the clutch bypass switch. So at least 3 additional connectors under the dash and at the trans I'm sure there are more differences along with the ECM. I'm hoping the connectors are in they're somewhere and I don't need to swap harnesses,
