Automatic Shift Lever - Oops, I took it apart...

Was just doing some cleaning, and removed the two screws on back of the automatic shift lever. The top of the lever sprung up, and this piece came out. Now, when I put it back in, but having the knob raised, insert so it catches the red piece inside the knob and lower it to put the screws in, the button won't push in - even with a key inserted into the release mechanism...

Any ideas on how to re-insert this piece?

I've searched and only come up with threads that detail how to replace the bushings - they don't go into any detail about how to do this...

*Edit - if I stick my finger in the side hole and push the red 'stick' down, I can shift it... I still can't figure out how to reinstall this piece.*

This is the shift 'button' that I can't figure out how to reinstall.

Does anyone know if there is another small piece that fits into the part pictured?

I still can't get this to work.

In looking at the diagram, I think some parts may be missing...when looking into the side of the shifter knob, I see a red plastic rod - squared off at the top. Is that the part # circled in red below?
I'm assuming the parts that fit into my original picture above are missing, but I have no idea where they could have gone. I have scoured the interior for any extra pieces to no avail.
Without removing the OD button, the knob won't come completely off, so it's hard to tell exactly what I'm looking at.
Any guidance here would be extremely appreciated!

I finally figured it out...the red plastic piece I could see was actually part #33625 - in the blue circle above. It had somehow gotten itself turned around backward so that the high side of the slant was facing the button.
The OD button wire is in a blue sleeve on my truck - it's wrapped around a very flexible metal prong. If you bend that prong up and 'unhook' the OD wire, it gives you enough slack to raise the entire shifter knob high enough to see what's inside.
I turned the red plastic part #33625 around the correct way and voila! it works again!
Don't forget to put the OD wire behind its tab again and press it down.
Whew!
