Automatic transmission compatability

Hey all, need to confirm what model year automatic transmissions are compatable with my 2000 4runner sport, 4x4 v6. I had my rear double cardan lock up at 75 mph on the freeway, which snapped my transmission case in half, and most likely destroyed my transfer case as well. I have found a good deal on a used transmission, transfer case and rear drive shaft out of a rolled 98, but had heard there were possibly some internal changes in 99 or 00? Looking to confirm comparability before I pull the trigger. Thanks

Even with a locked up or failing cardan its a moving part that spins with the driveshaft. Either the rear end or xcase had to be the one locking up. Thats crazy.

Anyways, you want the same units out of a 99+ I believe with the multimode. You will also want to make sure the rear ends gear ratio matches your front end. Could be a pain to figure all out. Good luck!
