Aux audio input repair (specifically black box removal)

I have a 2007 4Runner Limited with a malfunctioning Aux audio input, like so many people have.

I have done plenty of research on this and other forums, and I have found what to do once I am inside...but for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to remove this daggum black box that surrounds the components themselves!

I figured it would just "pop off" with a screwdriver or a flat edge, and it is not budging. You can see in this photo where I have chewed up the edges just trying to remove it.

Look at the radio removal guide, all u need to do is open the console lid, pull the trim out and it should expose some wires, trace the small wire that's hooked up to the aux.

thanks. can you point me to the "radio removal guide" ? and what does "pull the trim out" mean?

I need to get to input itself that is shown in the photo, which is inside that pain-in-the-ass black box.

You have to remove the center console to get to it
