Auxiliary backup lights

So I'm in the process of working on a rear bumper build (it's not far enough along to post any pictures). As part of this I would like to wire in some auxiliary backup lights. Ideally I would like to wire them up to come on when the vehicle is in reverse, which shouldn't be super difficult. The part that I'm unsure about is that I would also like to wire a switch to the dash to be able to turn the lights on on command, so if I'm doing something behind the vehicle I could have some light.

Has anyone ever done this? What challenges do you see that I would have to overcome? Just looking for some knowledge/input.

I did in 2011, one of my more useful mods. It's in my build thread if you want to see if what I did works for you. I have the switch so they can be turned off, turn on with the reverse lights and turn on without the reverse lights.

I seemed to initially have some problem with my fan switch as it was not true on-of-on but it's been working fine since. Not sure why the problem but it is off-on-more on- low and high are not entirely separated. You may want to try a different switch though the Toyota fan switch did end up working out for me.

It was not hard to do, just running wire, a relay, a tap, a switch...
